I've had some problems with my AR-15 lately. It happened a while ago but then I thought I had fixed it for good u till this past weekend. It would cycle m855 or typical .223 FMJ but I run hornady vmax .223 and the gun wouldn't cycle. I adjusted some things around on the gas block and cleaned the BCG real good and now it's stove piping and double feeding...
All I did to the gas block was properly align it back onto the dimple
    What do y'all think?
Im pretty certain the extractor is fine because it wasn't doing this before and I physically checked it to be sure

It doesn't happen very often, but check to see that the ejector pin is in good condition. Mine chipped and caused the same problems you are having.

Make sure nothing is in the ejector hole, check the ejector and the spring, check the extractor, check an clean the bolt tail of carbon, and try different mags. If an adjustable gas block, make sure it's clean. And by all means, make the gas block hasn't come loose and shifted.

So let's assume my extractor/BCG and gas block are in order. Would that be a buffer issue? As in, over gassed and has to be slowed down?

Assuming all the other things are in working order doesn't leave much else to look at. What buffer are you using now? How are the cases ejected, as in how far are they thrown? What angle?

What grain V-max are you shooting btw?

If everything else is fine, then I'd look at the mag due to your note above. The buffer would likely have been a problem from the beginning. Could also be ammo related. Some ammo may not cycle an AR due to being underpowered due to the gas port on the barrel. Sounds like it's a gas problem to me, but I try different mags to rule them out of the problem. But inspect the bolt and the bolt closely. I've got a PSA 6.8 that's like clockwork and starts having cycling problems every 300 rounds of so. I have to scrap the carbon off the bolt tail to make it run smooth.

Ok I shot it some more just now and here's what I noticed
    1. It double fed on the aluminum mag but never on the pmag
    2. The shells flew a foot away at 3:00
    3. I saw markings on the shell rim where the extractor was
    4. Shot American eagle .223
    @bozzman it was 55gr. Vmax

So it ran fine with the Pmag? No issues at all?

Sounds like you found the problem. You can round the corners off of the extractor with a Dremel Tool and that will reduce most of the marks on the brass.

Even with no other obvious issues, your rifle may never reliably cycle those Hornady loads. I have seen several ARs short stroke the bolt when running various 223 rounds. They may shoot well in bolt guns but the powders used aren't the best for a gas system.

This... had and ASC mag that needed quite of bit dremeling to function properly.

Going forward in my .223 ARs I only use Lancer or PMags. Saving 5 to 10 bucks a mag isn't worth the headache of a rifle that doesn't function.
