4 hours! Dang. That's too much for me. I hope to hear good things about it. Maybe I will make it one year.

Yeah, it may be too much travel time for me as well. The show is 250 tables, but my interests center on Soviet/Warsaw Pact items and if there isn't much of that there, I won't bother given the time/distance required...

That said, it would be a fun road trip! Google is routing me up 281 which is a nice drive, but it's also 472 miles round trip!

    Dallas Texas or so
They must not want us to come because the didn't put an address for the show....unless the dude collecting exhibitors' fees has a house big enough to host 250 tables.

Not that big of a venue. http://www.cleburne.net/index.aspx?NID=302

The gun shows held there are typical small town stuff. I might swing by just because it's 30 min. from me, but can't comment on if they will really have 250 tables or if it would be worth a trip. Website says the owner used to run the Ft Worth militaria gun show. If that show was so great, why move to a smaller venue would be my question.

If you decide to drive, I'd go 35 once you get around Austin. 75 mph most of the way beats stop lights and small towns on 281.

At this point I doubt we'll be going, it doesn't appear to be a large show and from what I can tell it's mostly US and German stuff vintage WWII.

If by chance we do decide to head up, it will be along 281 as I find that a very relaxing and enjoyable ride (unlike IH-35!). I know the latter would probably be quicker, but I prefer the more rural route and the small towns that line the way are a bonus to me not a hindrance...

    Dallas Texas or so
There used to be a store in Dallas called Militaria. It sold all sorts of things related to the military. Not so much patches and the stuff you see at gun shows but high class things. The had some lead toy soldiers that were spectacular. One I remember was a mounted soldier and the horse had actual leather bridle, saddle, and the saddle blanket was real leopard. Priced at around $2000.

Had a lot o military art showing troops from different eras. From Oil paintings to postcards.

    San Antonio!
There are a few military surplus shows in and around the San Antonio area (as discussed in this thread) as well as a bi-annual militaria show in Schertz (as discussed in this thread); but in all my visits to them I've only scored a few good items (recently a Yugoslav mess kit that had someone's name, hometown and the date "2/2/85" scratched into it). There are a few military surplus guys that go to the SAXET gun show but most of their wares are US. In my travels I try to get to one or two military surplus stores but I've found they're carrying mainly clothing than actually surplus items. It's a real hit-or-miss endeavor. I supplement my addiction with eBay and Sportsman's Guide searches on a regular basis. It's all just one big scavenger hunt! :D

I live in Burleson area, it's about a 15 minute drive for me to Cleburne. If you guys and gals want me to go check it out take pictures and get price quotes I can do that. Is there anything anyone is particularly interested in that might be here?

I appreciate it, but unless I find there is a good selection of Soviet/Warsaw Pact items being offered, I am unlikely to make the trip!

However, if you do go I'd be grateful for any intel you might be able to provide!

The lyrics are worth looking up if you're not familiar with the song. My favorite line is, "the flames of the Tigers are lighting the way to Berlin." Paints a vivid mental image for me.

Well, it looks like the next one is 19-20 May, the folks that usually attend the one in Schertz claim it's worth the drive. It'll be an early morning, but hopefully the 500-mile round-trip will be worth the trouble. We'll definitely be taking the Toyota and not the Jeep! ;)

I hope it's worth the trip for you. I haven't been to that show, but the last run of the mill gun show I went to in Cleburne was a last minute decision because I was there in town to pick up something else. There was a bigger show going on up in the big city close by, so many vendors were there instead. There were probably a dozen tables there at the show and about 4 folks walking around looking when I was there.

That was by far the worst show I've seen in Cleburne.

This isn't a gun show, in fact firearms and ammo are not allowed. It is a history/militaria collectors show held once a year. There is a similar show in Schertz that I have found numerous items at, I may just drive up and check it out.

What's all included in a "history/militaria" show? I've never been to one of these shows but am curious to know.

Pretty much a flea market for militaria/war-related items, the majority of which centers on WWII although that is not really the focus of my collection (I'm a Cold War/Soviet/Warsaw Pact guy) but I still find stuff on occasion.

There's a little more info on their website...

Let me know if you're going, I was actually researching Marriotts nearby and the closest one that'
s not in DFW (would rather avoid that area) is in Waxahachie. Not sure if we're going to drive up the day of or the night before, but as I have a quarter million points with Marriott, if the latter it's where we'll most likely stay...
