So I picked up an Oculus Rift. It's very nice. Lot's of cool stuff. I'm impressed at the technology. One needed piece of software is Virtual Desktop. Multi-monitor viewing is seamless. I have yet to fire up BF4 with the gameplay stretched across dual VR monitors but Eve Online looks nice. Only one issue is that I perspire around my eyes and forehead where the device sits on my face.

That all being said, my 300BLK pistol completion has been pushed out due to acquiring an expensive item before Father's Day.

I've been holding off on VR for a while, OR seems awesome, I really want an HTC Vive, but the price to entry is too high for my taste. This is coming from a guy that bought a 1080ti on release day.

Amazingly enough, it's going back today. After using it off and on for a couple of days, it's just not "there" yet. So the 300 BLK pistol build is back on.

The only reason 4K is even a consideration in viewing devices is because it was the cheapest improvement manufactures could make and brag about.

Only makes sense on a recording device for digital pan/crop in editing.

at 1080 per eye I could see the pixels and im damn near blind... when i put on an OR i wanted to take it off immediately because it looked horrible compared to a baseline IPS 1080p monitor.. pixel density has to go up.

That was one thing. The pixel density wasn't as good as I had thought that it was going to be. I tried playing BF4 on the Rift but it looked far better on my computer monitor.

Did you experience any lens blur? I had some very slight lens blur even after I cleaned the lens. I needed to tilt the far side of the Rift up to get that to go away.

VR isn't ready yet for the kind of graphics most of us gamers expect. It's more of a fad at the moment or a "look at what I got" thing. Until they can produce a much higher graphical output, I'll steer clear. The price is stupid too, the cheapest entry is the Playstation but I can't justify spending that kind of money on something I won't use often enough to matter.

I purchased a HTC Vive a while back and love it. I've been working on a game for it as well. (I'm a game developer) I have not tried the Rift yet. The Vive has some pretty cool games and demos out. Even google earth is amazing. Love going all over the earth and checking out different cities and places. Killing zombies with a slew of rifles is fun too. :)

I would disagree about the "fad" comment. It's here to stay. It will just evolve into something much better, in terms of resolution, weight, size, comfort and price. And when that happens, AAA companies will begin producing games that will blow people's minds. I've been playing and creating games since the late 70's, professionally for the past 22 years. However, games have lost their magic for me... that is until I got the Vive. It's re-ignited my passion for games.
