Doesn't matter as long as it is a tactical high capacity toaster.
2 slice toasters are for weenies.

Nope. Needs to be a "large bore" 2 slice toaster that has the capacity to hold either 2 oversized slices or 4 slices of bread.

@OP: Bet you didn't think you'd open up a giant can of worms just asking a (semi) simple question?

I realize it's the thought that counts, but would you really want your wife to pick out a gun, and buy it, for the you?
Heck yea. Mine has done it twice and both times did a great job :)

Maybe you geezers are just too ornery and the Mrs. stopped caring about what you want, so you get socks :p

Nope, I've told her never to buy me anything "expensive" without passing it by me first.
The girls know it as well, and will get Mom involved with their gifts.
I don't want money spent on me if it's not exactly what I would want.

As a recent "for example", she wanted to buy me a new grill for Fathers day.
I have a NIB grill in the garage she doesn't know about.
I told her I didn't want a new grill, so she bought me several shirts instead, couldn't have been happier.

How I wish! I'm trying pretty hard to avoid membership in the Corvette club, and rapidly approaching being drafted into the Get Off My Lawn Army.

I would echo the SKS, which you can find at reasonable prices.

The 10-22 is even more reasonable, and 22 ammo is super cheap compared to any rifle ammo.

Skip the Ruger Ranch RIfles IMO. I sold mine. If you want to go 556, then you can find ARs for around $500. Keep an eye on the "Good Gun Deals" thread. ANd ARs have a TON of accessories for mods that he might want to do in the future.

You are a pretty good girlfriend to do this for him!

I bought a like new SKS at the beginning of this year for $450 total. I have other SKSs, but this one looked spanking new! I've had a ruger 556 but it was a princess ( very picky on ammo ). All of my sks don't care what I feed em and decently accurate with the iron sights. Careful though, some are well used.
