I bitch about the rain in this desert, you ever try to drive through Odessa after it rains?
That's why all the vehicles in my driveway are full size trucks. Most of them are tall ground clearance 4X4's. The water in the street in front of my house can get 2 feet deep.

Just so you know ... Vaquero expects that you understand that the Governor sets the agenda when he calls a special session. If he wants it on his desk, should he assign it when he keeps the kids after school?
He can assign it all he wants. It already failed to pass once, and the same legislature wasn't going to magically pass it just because of a special session.

    And Stratus set the agenda.

If the Governor truly wants it, he can get it passed.

I argued with a few fence posts back when I was young.
You'll get past that stage too. Eventually.

Concerning the governor's call for a special session, the governor gets to select the items to be considered during the special legislative session. Many news reporting entities, refer to and define that as the governor's agenda. [A quick Google search will verify/confirm the use of that term and in that context]

And while I got onboard with GOA's call for Gov. Abbot to include cc on the "agenda" - I didn't hold out much hope for that call to be successful. I just don't think the politicians are willing to suffer the political heat in trying to justify spending the tax payers' money on that topic during an 'expensive' special session.

All of that being true, I'd think the governor has to go through a lot of items and can only select so many. He has to see how far the item got during the regular session, and decide which ones might be passed. Constitutional Carry didn't even come close this time.

One thing that just MIGHT get us more power with our legislators on gun items is if they saw a more united front, instead of splinter groups...I'm glad for the baby steps we've made...short of a revolution, it's going to take some time to get to where the founding fathers intended us to be.

No, he can't. Not alone. Being governor does not make you all powerful. There are still checks and balances he must deal with. If there is not enough support for a bill, then nothing Abbott does will get it to pass. You want to change that, then put pressure and the legislators who opposed Constitutional carry or fight to get them voted out.

As for arguing with a fence post, are you calling yourself a fence post, because I'd be inclined to agree.

The Governor controls what the legislature can consider in a special session. If he asks they must vote. If they still don't pass it, it's on them not the Governor. But he said he would sign and now he is the only one that can bring it up. If he does not it's on the Governors head, 100%. He is attempting to take both sides of the issue.
There is a feeling I get from republicans that we should bend over and thank Abbott for whatever crumbs he drops. Because he is better than the alternative. If there is to be an alternative it should at least be someone that is a fighter. Someone that tries to honor his words and promises. Abbott is the definition of the "establishment." These do nothing but talk republicans that have been in power for so long and passed nothing but fluffy feel good nothingness.
I'm prepared to eat my words by seeing action in the Governors office. But so far he is all words and very few deeds. And no words even about Constitutional Carry
This is why we have special sessions. If the lawmakers are too feckless to even pass the licensing of Doctors sunset bill, the Governor has the right to call a special session and tell them they will do this and more. We the People wanted property tax relief but the do nothing legislature could not do it, now they must. Constitutional Carry had overwhelming mouth support but died anyway. It's time for Abbott to make them take action. If 1911 or 375 can't be put on the Governors desk. then we know where our guys stand and it's time to send some RINO's packing. If Abbott is not man enough to bring it up, it's time for him to get off the government teat too.

SB 263 removing caliber restriction...any caliber for LTC now. Arthritic folks will like this one. Signed 6-9, effective 9-1.

SB1566...School districts can't keep employees/teachers who have a LTC from leaving arms/ammo that they can legally possess locked up out of sight in employee parking lots. School districts were exempted when the employee rights bill was passed awhile back. This rectifies that-but only for those having an LTC. Takes effect 9-1

SB2065- Takes volunter church security out from under the control of the Private Security Act. Takes effect 9-1.
    I looked up 2065
While it is about deregulating certain activities, I don't see anything in there about private church security

Help me find where the law says they must vote on the items on the Gov's list. I know that they must try to get a bill together-but where is it written that they must bring it to an actual vote because it's on his list. I can't find much detail about how the special session operates.

What pro-2A bill has reached his desk that he hasn't signed? I think he's doing his part...Straus and the rest of the legislature could do a lot better.

I don't think they "have to" but I think he might be able to make them stay longer or call for another session so there is always that pressure. Politicians seem to hate to work so anything to get them more time off to visit their 5 vacation homes is a pretty good incentive.

Caliber restriction removal is a really good thing.

Lots of older folks with failing hand strength will be helped out by this.
I don't know, although this is not quite the same and I'm not sure if they still do this, but in Washington state to get licensed on motorcycles they had three different classifications depending on the size of motorcycle you rode, the highest was unlimited (any CC). You had to qualify on a coned course using the size motorcycle for the classification and that classification was recorded on your drivers license.

Shooting a .22 is different from shooting a .45. How many people EDC a .22?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not totally against it, I just think most your training should be with the type of handgun you plan to EDC.

Lots of support was there. One of the CC bills passed out of the homeland security committee but the liberals from both parties on Calendars let it die. In a special session we wouldn't have to worry about that, it would go to a floor vote and there isn't a Republican in the house that wants his opponent in the next primary to be able to point to a vote against the 2nd amendment. If Abbott added it it would be all but guaranteed to pass the house. If it didn't we would clean house and pass it next session.

A lot more than you think EDC .22-that's all I carried for the first 5 years I carried...'course I started at 14. I'd do all my shooting with .22 shorts, and carry .2LR HP.
For many years, .22 was the caliber most people were killed with in the US. I ain't gonna sass Grannie with her little .22...stood over way too many bodies that bled out before the ambulance got there from a 40gr slug bouncing around center mass. I wouldn't CHOOSE .22, but I could make do real well from what I learned on-a 4" High Standard Sentinel Deluxe.

"...clean house and pass it next session.".....sounds like a plan! Start with Strauss. We need to keep reminding the politicians they're there to do the peoples' will, not wheel and deal the peoples' support to serve their own political agendas...they forgot that loooooooong ago.

(know I misspelled his name, but it needed that last s to go with the a s to really fit him.)
