    Does this help at all?
    http://fortblissbugle.com/bliss-firearms-policy-summarized/

Seems like you could call the MPs and ask-tell them the reason.

I know of a feller who left his pistol in the bus station locker because he didn't trust the motel...may be an option?

Thank you for seeing another vet off...sorry for your loss...which is ALL our loss.

    Yep, that's still the case..

    Key points:

At Fort Bliss, the policy that governs the owning and transporting of firearms is governed by Army Regulation 190-11, Chapter 4.

“All personnel, Soldiers and civilians, who live or work on Fort Bliss and who have a need to bring a weapon on the installation must register their weapon before doing so,” said Patrick S. Dyer, a physical security specialist with the Directorate of Emergency Services, here.

Firearms can be registered through two Visitor Control Centers located either at the Robert E. Lee gate, 24 hours a day or at the Chaffee gate from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Soldiers, E-1 through E-6, must obtain a commander’s signature for the firearm to be registered. The forms may be obtained from the VCC, the DES share point or the firearm’s counter at Freedom Crossing.

    OH, CRAP...IT'S VA@!

    https://www.cem.va.gov/cems/nchp/ftbliss.asp
    WEAPONS POLICY
VA regulations 38 CFR 1.218 prohibit the carrying of firearms (either openly or concealed), explosives or other dangerous or deadly weapons while on VA property, except for official purposes, such as military funeral honors. Possession of firearms on any property under the charge and control of VA is prohibited. Offenders may be subject to a fine, removal from the premises, or arrest.

I would NOT keep it in the car...they don't play. If there's no bus station/lockers...you might check with the local PD...they might watch it as a service...or park off-property and ride to the cemetary with someone else.

    @ sergeant69:

You could leave it with me and then pick it up after the funeral. I live on the Westside of El Paso (and have a decent safe to put it in).

Or, you could still leave it with me, then I could meet you near Ft. Bliss (@ a Village Inn, Denny's or IHOP perhaps in the Basset Shopping Center/Mall area) after the funeral and give it back to you so you don't have to come all the way back to the Westside to pick it up.

Was going to do this same thing -- leave it with someone -- when I had planned to visit my sister in DC, except my "someone" lived in the Free State of Virginia, but close enough to DC that it'd work out. I sure didn't want to get stopped/searched in DC by Metro cops, I assure you, and having TX plates on my car, I thought they MIGHT just pull me over, even without any good/legal reason to do so.

The trouble WE have to go through because of stupid "policies" that do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to deter/stop criminals, psycho-shooters or terrorists...yet at the same time put US in danger.

As for Chicos Tacos, IIRC some of the stores went out of business...don't know which ones (if any) are still around OR if they're in the same locations as you remember so you'll have to Google them for yourself. For some reason, they went "cash only" some years back...so no plastic accepted -- upon discovering that I walked out and never went back (don't carry cash anymore). It was a Eastside location @ Montwood & Trawood (next to Chase Bank)...and it may still be open. The one closest to Ft. Bliss would be the store that was near the Chelmont Shopping Center (Montana & Chelsea) but it's gone now: Google Earth shows an empty lot there now so it was razed (Google Earth Historical map shows it gone as of October 2016).

P.S. I've been at the Ft. Bliss cemetery a few times (my brother is there), and was never checked/searched. Never even saw any "authorities" around to do checks anyway. Of course, driving onto Ft. Bliss itself is another story with their guards & gates...but you just drive into the cemetery as the gate is left open and there aren't any checkpoints/guards entering or leaving the property. I've just seen grounds workers here and there when I visit.

As for the VA Medical Center, they don't seem to check/search cars, either: You show your ID and they may look in your windows to see what/if anyone is in the back, but no pulling you over to do any searches (as might happen @ a Border Patrol Checkpoint or the Customs people at the Border/bridges).

I know at nights they have random car checks. Th we y cam decided to check your car at any time they want. VA has a random check station aboutb1/4 before I'd checkpoint when coming in via fred wilson. I wouldn't risk it. Of corse I am that guy who always gets caught and made an example of

    kyletxria1911a1,

...that's why when I go anywhere that's federal property (like the USPS for one example) I take my holster & magazine pouch off my belt so there no empty holster to see* because as you said, if they see an empty holster it's HIGHLY likely there's at least one gun in your car.

*I'm a "unicorn" -- meaning, an OCer (OpenCarrier) so MY "gun stuff" clearly is visible when carrying (but even then MOST people don't even notice the gun, even when standing right next to me)! ;-)

When I go to my local shopping malls, however (I automatically assume ALL malls are posted no matter what state of the Union I happen to be in at the time), I don't take the holster/mag-pouch off, but do take the gun out of the holster and put it upside-down in my black leather "biker vest" pocket with the grip up (my 2 mags stay in their pouch but my vest covers them...most of the time!). You'd really have to be looking to see the magazine floor-plate peeking out of the pocket to read "Sig-Sauer" stamped on it!

And although I've gone to the mall many times this way, and passed many mall security people (who are UNarmed, so what could THEY do in an "active shooter" situation?), either no one (mall security, store employees, other shoppers) has noticed the empty holster or no one cares. But frankly, since "stuff" can happen anywhere and anytime, I prefer not to be UNarmed ever -- even @ a "safe" mall (aka: GFZ, aka: Killing Fields). So I still CARRY, even if covertly...

When it comes to "No Guns" signs (but no metal detectors), it's sad that decent citizens have to choose between being a law-abiding (but dead) citizen or an "outlaw" (but alive) citizen.

Again though, all this NONSENSE "security" BS for decent people to deal with, whereas criminals/psycho-shooters/terrorists (or the occasional USPS employees "going postal" -- if they still do that anymore) completely disregard it...

Here's a more convenient plan for you: There's an IHOP @ Basset Center where we can meet BEFORE you go to the Ft. Bliss Cemetery. You can give me your 1911, I'll lock it up in my very-serious (!) car-safe, then go into to IHOP for a couple of hours waiting for you to come back from the funeral and then you can pick up your gun. That way you don't have to come to my place on the Westside of El Paso at all (unless you don't mind the extra driving).

BTW: I can give YOU something to hold as a "hostage" as you don't know me, so I wouldn't blame you for being "concerned" giving your gun to a stranger to hold for you. Perhaps a sheet of paper with a copy of my TX Driver's License and TX LTC permit on it you can give the cops -- they'll easily find me. ;-)

As I said earlier, I was going to leave my guns (the handgun I EDC -- AND a SKS that's also in my car as a "car-gun") with a stranger in VA, but as he was a member of the VCDL (VirginiaCitizensDefenseLeague) and a regular poster in that forum (OpenCarry.org), I was not at all worried. But if you are even a bit worried, then I won't be offended making you a copy of those 2 items/documents mentioned above.

I agree but it's our societies mentality. Thinking they are safe and big brother will care for them. Just one of those things

Making criminals out of good people. The US Government, whose side are they on anyway.
Most Hotels these days have room safes or one in their office that guests may use while staying. If the Hotel objects then you are staying at the wrong place.

If you think anything is secure in a hotel safe, you are sadly mistaken...

well back in the 70s when i was living on a dirt farm between anthony and canutillo and actually doing physical labor and calories meant nothing, sneaking into town to montana st by loretto academy there was a chicos where we'd get 2 orders and a burger each and stuff ourselves. back then they was GOOD. thats the chicos i remember. and the one down by ascarate park somewheres. then they built the one on the east side. but no matter which one you went to there was a line of cars at the drive thru and u always had to look for a place to sit inside. or we'd get a sack of Lucky Boy burgers (5) for a dollar.
