Got a box in the mail today with my new prop, along with a water rudder and some other odds and ends.

Water rudder is mounted and linkage attached to rudder servo. Added a micro servo to retract the water rudder for take off, gotta run the cable for that. One piece of covering to replace on the wing and 2 push rods for the ailerons.

Should be testing things out in the tank tomorrow, maybe crash it in the lake again next week.

Put it back on the water today.

Had to pull the throttle servo and fill it with alcohol to dry some leftover water.

    Rudder works pretty well.

Has a point where the spray from the floats is channeled straight to the prop, temporary and it moves through the phase pretty quick under power but I'll probably add some sort of deflector. If hate to have a drop of water sucked in to the carb at the wrong time.

Went to a party supply store yesterday to get some more paratroopers to drop. Looks like they don't carry them anymore. Found a bag of little parachuting animals instead. Not quite as authorities as soldiers, but being 1.5" I should be able to get more in the cargo bay. Think the soldiers were around 3" tall and I was able to cram 4 in but had to be careful of wrapping the chutes too tight and they wouldn't open.

    May test this afternoon.

Tested yesterday. Some chutes didn't open, another opened and sailed in to the tank. All recovered.

Crinkling up the cheap plastic the chutes are made of should fix the not opening issue. That stuff is just to stiff when it's new.

Almost no wind when I got home today so I grabbed a 1S battery, my daughters Super Cub, FPV goggles, and micro camera.

The camera is about all the payload the little Cub can handle, and the extra draw on the battery cuts flight time to about 4-5 minutes max.

Still, it's a fun little plane to fly FPV and is so light that there's rarely any damage in a crash. Batteries are only about $6 so it's not hard to stock up on enough to get some good flying time in.

lol... Do you have a video of the zoo drop?

That seems like it could be useful for other things, too. Would be a fun way to seed a food plot.

No, I was flying solo and I've misplaced my GoPro hat (old hat with GoPro mount glued to the bill)

Kind of a solemn day really.

I wish your posts had more substance. But at least you made it to 25.

Our club is hosting a Boy Scout troop to introduce them to RC flight and let them buddy box.

It's still OK to smack around an other's kid if they act up, right? :green:

I thought you might like that :green:
I started a write up last night but was too tired to finish. Will post one, eventually.

I wing mounted a keychain cam and recorded the kids flights, now I'd like to do some editing to the QuickTime files but never have before. I want to add text notes and clip sections for slow-mo play, then continue vid at normal speed.

I know you've done edits, is there cheap or free and easy to use software you can recommend?

If you have windows, the stock video editor (Windows Movie Maker) will handle those basics. I'm not sure what version it started being included on. It came with mine on Windows 7. You can probably download it for free from Microsoft if you don't have it.

I always worry about downloading free software from 3rd parties, don't know enough about checking to make sure it's legit. And the software I purchased was somewhat expensive and way more than needed for what you want to do.

Turns out I do have Movie Maker (v5.1) and spent about 3hrs editing 1 vid turning an @.5gb file into @64k. THEN I realized if you don't have compatible MM + the video, you won't be able to view what is essentially a string command. FML

I've hit up people I know in IT depts. + the Mass media & Art depts. at SHSU and can't find anyone to help.

OK, why I'm really in here tonight ...

Have you ever mounted Roman candles on a plane? Seems like a wonderful OR, 'spensive idea. If I do it, I'll hopefully be able to get an @15sec fuse to get some altitude before the fireworks. Can't decide if they should shoot forwards or backwards. Powered glider w/motor brake so prop SHOULD be safe.
