Visited Trinity Armory today and was very please! Berms at 25yds, 50yds, 100yds and, 300yds. Paper target can be placed at 25-100yds and they have paper stands, as well as, steel targets for 200-300yds. He is waiting for the weather to hold to build out to 500yds. Jack, the owner, was very friendly and there is a wide selection of firearms and accessories for sale.

    To All,

I'm going to be in NW Houston for several days, starting 11JUL17, & would like a local recommendation of a range on the north side that will allow me to shoot both a handgun & my 5.56NATO pump-rifle.

    yours, satx

Could you be slightly more specific as to your location?

    zx9rcam,

The nearest major intersection is Westheimer & Montross.
(Never been in that area of Houston, so I'll have to find the address.)

    thanks, satx

I don't know if that would be considered NW Houston, but I've been wrong before.

    zx9rcam,

Pardon me for not knowing much about Houston. = Haven't been there (except passing through the airport) in nearly 20 years.
(The host, who is from Spokane, WA said, "We're in NW Houston.")

    yours, satx

Hey, I'm lucky to be able to make it back to my house after I go anywhere.
I live in The Woodlands, and consider that NW Houston, others will disagree, lol.

Just checked Mapquest, and it showed 42 miles from my house to Montrose/Westheimer.

Thats not northwest Houston by about 30 miles. You're in central Houston, just a little left :).

Check out American Shooting Centers. It has both pistol and rifle.

I would not go to Hot Wells. They make you wait MULTIPLE seconds between pistol shots. Its also up 290. One should not travel 290 unless one is coming in or leaving Houston if they can avoid it as the whole thing from 610 through Hempstead is under agonizing construction. On the alternative, if you want to atone for you sins through penance, taking 290 is one way to do it. Dog Made 290 to Train The Faithful!

Be aware Top Gun has some interesting ammo rules or at least it did a few years ago. On the plus side some really good pizza is not far from there, and its a decently clean indoor range.

The first post in this thread will help you come up with a list of candidate ranges. Personally, if you can figure out which ones are accessible to you and tell us which they are, you'll get plenty of recommendations, pro and con, on each one named.

If you're actually at Westheimer and Montrose, you're just SW (as in just a few blocks) from the middle of downtown. Since there are no shooting ranges inside Loop 610, you can just pick a direction and drive. Pretty much every range in town a given distance from you will be equally (in)convenient.

Top Gun is almost certainly the easiest trip to make but I chafe at a max range of 50 feet. Other than that (don't take my word for it; verify via the website at https://www.topgunrange.com/range.html ) it would seem to meet your requirements.

Interesting about Hot Wells. I haven't shot there in several years, but I never noticed any slow fire rules.

It's been about 17 years since I've been to Top Gun. They used to be a pretty decent place back in the day. Of course, back then, ASC was a cool place to shoot. I've heard they can, at times have an attitude now, but I am not certain.

Actually Liberty Armory, http://thelibertyarmory.com/ on Bellaire is inside the Loop and has a range.
Holy crap, you're right! I didn't know about that one. So now there are some more things that need to come to the notice of specific folks.

satx78247 - Check the Liberty Armory web site. It's a "Private" range for which you must purchase a membership but it would be an easy trip for you. You might want to call them up and ask some questions.

Acera - This is a range that needs to be added to the master list in Post #1.

Everyone - Does anybody else know of any other new ranges (Liberty Armory came into existence well after this thread started.) that need to be added to the list?

Keeping up that list and map, after all, is the true purpose of this thread.

I believe I've made all the updates to the Google map. If someone finds a mistake or omission just let me know and I'll fix it at my next opportunity.

Athena allows 556 , it is a boutique range, 1/2 off tue and thurs, one for CHL and the other is Facebook word of the day.

It is one of the nicer indoor ranges in town

    It's at bw8 and i10w

Prob should look into Boyert as well, very similar facility

Both top notch, but typically pricey $20 normally
