Black powder and substitutes are measured by volume in grains. Not by weight. You need a black powder measure. Not sure what the charge is on shotguns. I would think 50-60 grains would be plenty to play with.

Here is what I have. I have other Lee dippers but they are all smaller.

    Gunz are icky.
Try a few rounds as you've loaded them. See how they perform.
Its very common to have a lot of case left over after filling. I usually add a second over powder wad.
You can always increase powder and shot charges later.

Your antique scoop looks like its missing the inner cup?

I don't even know if this gun works yet. The stock has a huge crack so I'm afraid to try it before replacing the stock.

Maybe it'll be okay with this load though.

7/8 oz = about 382 gr which is way too much. I don't think you used that much because there's way too much empty space. Anyway black powder is measured by volume. If you get a black powder measure and set it to 50gr black powder you would use the same setting for 777 even though the actual weight would not be the same.
I would not fire those until you can confirm the charge which should be less that 80gr for an older gun. Remember the 45-70 used 70gr BP. A reasonable amount would be about 5cc or about 0.169 oz. I used 4.3cc for a mild load.

    Example of BP measure.

With 777, 48 grns may be a bit heavy since you do not know anything about this gun. 777 runs hotter and more pressure than real BP.

For what it's worth, I second using black powder and skipping the substitutes. Goex recommends FF for shotguns.
