Agreed. Best/cheapest upgrade there is: 10 minutes with a file and a little reassembly time but makes it so much easier to use.

Second upgrade should be a rubber bolt buffer to replace the hard steel one (cost is less than $10 and installs in less than five minutes).

Please educate me a bit, what is the rubber bolt buffer for vs the factory steel? What is the benefit of swapping out? Thanks

    Gunz are icky.
Choke yourself for not buying one sooner.

Rubber bolt buffer cushions the bolt during recoil. Longer life.
    Super simple to replace.

Man, you really dropped in behind the wave on this one! 10-22's are not rifles, they are obsessions! I still have the first one that I bought in the early 1980's and I'd be embarrassed/humiliated/ashamed to reveal how many of the little monsters that have come and gone out of my life. It's like eating ONE potato chip!

Advice - Take it Back, immediately! It will infect you with a virus to accessorize, modify, and supplement. It never ends, trust me.

No truer words have ever been posted in the hallowed halls of TGT!

    Seriously.....have fun!

    Relax--I don't own a 10/22 . . . but I'm thinking about one of the take-downs with threaded barrel.

My wife wanted one of the take-down models, so that's what she got. Doesn't mean I can't modify it :D
So far it got a nice little Simmons scope, a sling, and the upgraded trigger group from Ruger installed:

Got it for $59.99 shipped. I don't know why Ruger doesn't install that one from the factory. 3.3lbs trigger pull, i.e. just breathe on it! ;) Also, the second easiest install on any on her Rugers yet!

    I'm liking that idea. WTG!

Btw that gray plastic around the actual trigger group is to keep the hammer where it belongs during shipping and finger-f*cking. There's a bar above the hammer keeping it from moving too far. Once you remove it from the package and the plastic "clamp", stay away from the trigger and hammer until the whole thing is installed.

And had it been up to me, this upgraded trigger group would have made the entire rifle work like a "proper semi-auto", i.e. magazine is empty = bolt locks open. Change magazine, pull back bolt and let go to chamber the first round from the fresh magazine, rather than that madness of a bolt hold open/release that's on there.

Due to TGT's bad influence, I just bought a 10/22 Takedown Lite--in contractor yellow. Also bought three BX-15 mags and the BX-Trigger. Not sure what optic I'll use yet, but it'll likely be a reflex sight or red dot of some sort.

I love my 10/22. Need to go buy me a 25 round mag for it since I now live in San Antonio. Next year I'll teach my daughter to shoot with it.
I happen to prefer the BX-15 mags or the factory 10-round. I've always thought the long "banana" mags look silly in the 10/22, but that's just me.

I was finally able to zero the bushnell rimfire scope I put on there. Like it a lot this thing is going to be a blast!!! I just wish elm fork would let you shoot 22 long at their 100 yard range. Its really stupid in my opinon.

He speaks the truth. Before you know it, everything on that rifle will have been replaced, including the receiver. You'll do it piece by piece without noticing, and then you'll realize you can put your original rifle back together again. Then you'll start upgrading the original and the cycle will repeat. It is a beautiful thing.

I have a 10-22 thst I bought in 1979. I also have a 10-22 carbine with a black composite stock that I purchased about two years ago and shot it for the very first time just last week. I put a Bushnell TRS-25 Reddit optic on it and at 25 yards ( the longest distance I have shot it) it was awesome. Just one big ragged hole where the bullseye once was. I really want to get a 10-22 Take Down someday.

Very few modern .22's will eject a subsonic round like the 10/22. Unless you are looking to shoot .22 shorts, the 10/22 is one of the best on the market in my opinion. I own 3: 2 rifles and a 1st gen Charger.
