Today was the day. Moved my reloading scene indoors.

Built a new heavy duty bench (2x6 and 3/4" plywood), painted it, mounted my presses.

Still need to build shelving over the bench to accommodate peripherals. But it feels good to have the move done.

Put some heavy blue plastic over the bench top. So heavy in fact that I could not wrap it around the edges.

And I stole the idea of putting a cookie sheet under the shotgun press from someone on this board.

I need to a new bench. I have a horrible freight one and it's a little wobbly. I really like the wood vise on the end though. I'll have to add that to any subsequent bench.

2x6 frame and legs, 2x6 back was screwed to the wall, 3/4" plywood top. Home Depot ripped the plywood in half for me so I didn't have to cut that. Love that this one is a full 8'. Plenty of room.

Surprisingly inexpensive. Around $200, but included big boxes of screws.

If you look at mine, its SIMPLE! 2x4 frame and 2 2x12 boards for the top. All held together by 1/4" lag bolts. If you can cut a board, you can build one. This woukd be for a 6 ft bench. Adjust the 68" and 72" lengths to match the length of your bench. Ive never had my bench flex or wobble! Cost was about $50 with polyurathane sealer.

    Cut list:

    Qty length size

    4 33" 2x4
    5 22" 2x4
    1 68" 2x4

    2 72" 2x12

    28 2.5" 1/4" lag bolts

Here is a better pic. This is an 8' bench so I added another leg for support. On a 6' bench, I just lay a 2x4 flat under the top in the middle to keep the 2 2x12's from flexing i wouldnt even bother with that on a 4' bench. I bought a 16' 2x12 and just cut it in half for the top.

Pffft. Thats what? 18 minutes worth?

Well, maybe a little more time than that. The press was all set up, but it was time for a lube/clean job plus a little tweaking. I've been fighting a depriming pin that was sticking in the spent primers and pulling them back into the case. Stuffing a new primer on top of that mess is a bad deal, so I worked on it a bit more - got it running good. Made ~400 rounds.

I think Robert has a 1911. Between clearing the jams that is a full days worth.
    Burn!

I did have a star in 9mm. It seemed to jam more than any of my 45s ever did.

That said, I went I. To my reloading room/garage today. I looked at the thermometer and saw that it had melted. I went swimming instead.

Robert, you ever get your light fixed yet?

Nope. Thought about working on it yesterday though. Don't tell my wife.

My 9mm 1911 experience has been great. Bought a full sized RIA a while back and it runs without a hiccup.
