We usually put our cams up well-after Labor Day to see what's coming into our food plots and feeders. But I've heard of folks putting their trail cams out in mid-August.

For those of you who use them, when do you put them out (assuming, of course, that you don't leave them out year-round)?

When I was on a lease, I never took mine down. Downloaded the images every 2 months when I went to fill the feeders. Was able to watch the growth of several potential targets, get a better feel for when certain animals were coming in and from which direction etc.

You'd want to have them out at least a month before your first hunt. Check the photos/videos once a week. You can see a lot of interesting things if you leave them up year round, but you also run the risk of someone stealing them.

    Mine come home during summer.
Spring growth and steady winds give thousands of photos of tall grass swaying.
Fresh batteries and out they go, right about now.

Mine stay out year round. Both at the farm, and at the lease. I check them every week or two.

I really enjoy watching what's coming in. It's fun to see what kind of surprise visitors might show up.
