So I have a friend that I'm sent him the parts to build an AR. The only thing he needs a barrel. This rifle isn't going to be used for hunting or competition. What's a consensus on a barrel for less than $200? Either 14.5" or 16"

AR Stoner barrels get good reviews on Midway. Think they run a little over $100.

For a bit more than $200 you can get outstanding barrels. Just be careful buying cheap, you often get what you pay for.
I doubt he will ever shoot past 100 yards. I love my proof barrel but im not gonna tell many people to buy one

Quick follow up on this... If he's going 14.5, would he need papers to for it if he going to suppress it?

He would have to SBR it or pin and weld a suppressor mount on to get it to 16".

Or he could just get a 16" barrel and not have to worry about it.
