But it's to your advantage to double-check everything...they won't be standing before a judge when you act on their bad information.(Nor would they likely give you written permission to have your long gun on campus like the law allows them to do.) Good example of why not to trust but read it yourself in the law. Get that rock-solid foundation under you then you can't be shaken.
Doesn't really matter to me, I have no intentions of ever bringing a long gun to the campus. My classes have a lot to do with fire, not fire power.

The first of this year, I use to see a lot of carriers, cc and oc, now not so much. Dunno, maybe the novelty of it has worn off here where I'm at? Me and my boss are the only one's that I see or can tell thats carrying.

We aren’t allowed to carry at work, or in our vehicles, but there are several of us that do. I know of 9 in our little section of maybe 50 that are carrying off and on.

just wondering why you factor out felons and guys not legal in some way to carry. I bet the % of felons with a gun on them are higher % wise than LTC holders.

My company is foreign owned and publicly traded, with relatively few employees in the Permian Basin. They don’t like firearms at all. The funny part is they put up a photo copied 30.07 sign at the front door of our main building, and believe that keeps firearms out of all buildings and all properties. So far, we have all been smart enough not to correct them.

    TxStetson,

Somebody on the staff need to tell your company management folks that "gun free zones" do NOT stop violence any more than stop signs stop cars.

Someone should also tell the DUNCES that since WWII that all but 3 mass murder incidents have occurred in "Gun Free Zones".
(Posted "Gun Free Zones" actually ATTRACT vicious criminals, as criminals are mostly cowards & PREFER helpless/cowering victims.)

Office policies at my last place of employment forbade employees carrying weapons, but there was no restrictions put on ANY visitor to the building.

    WTF?

My former employer had a no weapons policy.....most suspected I was carrying on the job.

For the 15 years I worked there.... they were right.....

If I could carry at work I would. Problem is I work at a school and there are all sorts of new problems legally that presents if I go against the employer's desire that I do not carry. Can't even keep my gun in my car! I am thinking about parking off of campus and keeping my gun in the car, but it's a hefty walk because of the location of the school.

I've often wondered in any large, adult group gathering of a general cross section of Texans, how many could you expect to be 'packing heat'?
I think about 5% of the eligible population have an LTC. So 1 in 20, minus those that have an LTC but don't carry. I'm guessing maybe 3 or 4 out of every 100 people you see in public are legally armed. No idea how to factor in the illegally armed.

I think that’s basically the number I’ve arrived at - doesn’t necessarily make it right; after all, there’s probably no way to know in absolute terms. But as close of an educated guess as I can arrive at, three or four out of a hundred folks seems most logical to me.
As the OP, my interest wasn’t concerned with trying to comprehend numbers for the criminal element of our society. I was more trying to understand, out of the total number of folks who go to the trouble (time & expense) to get their Texas CHL (now, LTC), how many wind up actively carrying with any degree of regularity. And what that number would look like verses a typical cross section of society (thus my WalMart analogy).
So, IF those numbers are anywhere close to reality, that would mean there’s a drop-off of roughly half the people that get their LTC, who either don’t regularly carry or don’t ever carry. Going by DPS renewal rates I don’t think would lead to a correct conclusion since I suspect many of those people renew even though they may not actively carry.

That's what I'd guess, 3 or 4 out of a hundred. But location also needs to be factored in the estimate. Large cities, suburbs, small towns, etc. will, I think, have differences. I'd put the number higher than three or four percent in smaller, rural communities (Kerrville, Junction, Johnson City, etc.).
