This is about to get interesting guys. 16 days after Remington introduced their TAC 14 in 20 gauge, Mossberg has done the same with their 590 Shockwave.

I want a Shockwave. Now I just need to decide if I need one in 12 or 20 gauge. Perhaps I need both???

Other than more guns are better so get both why would you chose a 20 over a 12 for home protection ?

Don't give me the recoil excuse the 12 ga is not bad unless you are frail. The only reason I could see might be over penetration of walls and I have no clue how a 12 and 20 compare in that regard.

I dont think it would matter, unless you are using some loads heavier then bird-shot.

My grandpa had an old one shot, break-action .410 and I have never understood why that was ever invented.

Might be good for killing rats in a barn maybe, but for hunting, even doves? No way!

Have you ever hunted with a 410? Give it a try sometime. I hunted half a day with a buddies 410 SxS. We shot chucker and I believe he was running #6. The gun was a hammer and had no recoil. I was blown away at how easily it put them down. It is an experts gun and not a kids gun but if you can do the work it will.

Only problem with a .410 is the cost of shells.

    Yikes!

I haven't priced .410 ammo, since my stupid brother didn't have a gun safe and my Granddad's old shotgun was stolen about 15 years ago. I refurbished it back
in high school, when we still had a gunsmithing class. No such thing in CA schools now, needless to say.

I still have my beautiful 1970's Remington 12 GA 870 Pump-action in Walnut stock and forearm, locked up in a gunsafe, when I am not using it.

My dad was a cop. In the late 1950's he took a gun off a man during a domestic disturbance. Mexican standoff. My dad with his gun to the perps head, who in turn had the 16 gauge to my dad's partner's head. Fortunately, everyone kept their head. Literally and figuratively.

In those days if the person didn't claim their gun in 60 days, the officer who took it off them could have it.

That Mississippi Valley arms single shot 16 sits in my gun safe this very day.
