Fired up the lead pot and cast up 150 round balls for my new muzzleloader. Only had one mishap but it was a doozie! While the pot was heating up, I went inside to help my wife get my 8 month old to bed (he is bad about fighting sleep). Came back out to this mess!!! Took about an hour and a propane torch to get the hunk of lead out from under the spout and get it ready to cast again!

I need to get in to casting at some point. Just haven't talked myself in to the investment.

Making BP would be awesome, but not something I think I want to take on solo.

I got lucky and got a couple lead pots in a trade for an old beat up m44 from a guy on here. I have t regretted it one bit. I got pretty good with the 2 cavity mold I have but once I got a 6 cavity I was really cranking them out. I get free lead from the tire guy at my work. I've got about 60 pounds laying around still waiting to get processed into ingots.

I also got a toaster oven and a bottle of powder coat. Using cast powder coat 9mm with $20 s&b primers, plus just a little bit of titegroup... I'm loading 9mm for about 5 cents a pop! I really need to get a 45 mold and a 223 mold. 9 cents for 223 would be awesome!

Well I loaded my first 40 12ga shells last night. Only 360 more to go before I run out of primers!

I also won an RCBS single stage press but I think k I'm gonna trade it for store credit for some HP 9mm bullets.

100 more 12ga tonight. Wife is going out of town for a week with the kids so maybe I'll go out and unload them this weekend.

These loads are pretty tame with an 80gr vld only going 3125fps. After a powder change it should be good for 3400 with the same bullet.

Finally broke down and bought a couple of 3 way cutters for my Forster case trimming tool. Ended up needing to get the longer base as well - the way the head attaches to the existing tool it eats up a whole lot of the space between the ends and changing brass was a bigger PITA than normal. I think it will work pretty well now, and eliminate some of the things I hate most about reloading - chamfering and deburring brass. Still not perfect, but way, way, way better than doing it by hand.

I use that too, the 3 way heads are great. Are you doing a magnum case because I was able to do standard rifle cases by just making adjustments to the regular base.?

Nope, just standard .223 and .243. I wasn't aware of the additional tapped holes on the collars until after I'd got my new base in and removed them, so there is some wiggle room that I simply didn't know about. I do like the longer base though, much more room and just a lot easier to get brass in and out versus the standard length base.

I'll pick up a .30 cal whenever the opportunity hits, the extra room will be nice on .30-06 and even my .300 WSM.
