I am gathering the parts for a quality SBR build, but lack tools needed completely assemble it.
Who are some of the quality rifle builders in town, preferably on the Southwest or West part of town. I am willing to drive a bit though.

For west, I've had good experience with Katy Gun Gear. They'll sit there and help you build it yourself if you want. Or you can bring the parts and leave it to them

I've seen the end results of some of the Texian builds, they're on Westheimer just west of Hwy 6. I have no idea what their costs are like though.

Wife lost her job days after getting my stamp. She is now employed, and I am looking to get this built out.
    Any new suggestions?

What tools do you think you need?

What rail are you using? Does it use GI barrel nut and you need that wrench? A lot of rails don't require anything special to tighten the barrel nut.

Are you building a carbine? A basic (read cheap) AR tool will accomplish tightening the castle nut.

Aside from that you can use basic hand tools to build the whole thing. Do they work as well as specialized tools? No, but it still can be done pretty easily. I built several that way before buying a few specialized tools.

I have asked around. For a set of good specific tools, to build quality torqued to spec everything. It would cost me a few hundred dollars.
That is more than I am willing to spend for only one AR build. If I get get the itch to build more I will dedicate the time to acquire the needed tools.
It is good to gain the practical knowledge of truly understanding how parts come together to make a weapon. Super great for understanding how to fix problems that pop up later as well.
Short story, I want to get this thing together and tuned in the next few weeks. Time is at to much of premium for me to not spend it at work, or shooting.

I went to Texian. It was every bit as good as I expected. I went back a few more times just to spend cash extra cash as a thank you.
They helped even out a scope I had, it was not perfectly level in the mount.
I will be heading their way again later.

I had a complete lower reciever already. I think it was $75 or $100. We built the upper together. Actually, I helped as they explained and demonstrated what to do.

It is more expensive with completely disassembled parts. I think it was $150 to teach and assemble from just parts.
It is also cheaper, if they don’t have to sit there and teach as they are putting it together for you.
    I liked my experience.

I would have done it for $120 and enough blather to make your ears bleed.

Pics? Have you shot it yet?

Not yet. I got sick, and then I have been working my face off ever since. Just finished a shift today. Now it is time to go be Dad.

I do need to tune the gas block on it. I just posted another thread about that. I want one gas setting to rule them all. Not trying to adjust between supers and subsonic rounds. I already know the supers will be over gassed. 300 blk shouldn’t be too bad though.

I have been dying to get it tuned, and out to the range!
I have got EVERYTHING I need to test for accuracy and have a good time. Once it is tuned.
Pics will come when it is tuned and done accuracy testing.
