I will always be sympathetic to any parent who loses a child no matter what the circumstances, and this teen had mental issues he was contending with; but she knew he was committing crimes by acknowledging he was "bringing home money when he didn't have a job" and she shouldn't criticize the man who was legally defending his family and others. He was not the one that put them in that situation, her son was.

In fact, she should consider the mental anguish that man is going through for having to end the life of a teenager. He didn't choose to be put into that position, nor did he want to be put in that position; but because of the actions of her son, he was. He did what he had to do.

Lastly, she doesn't realize it doesn't matter if a firearm is loaded or not if it is used in the commission of a crime.

Again, I can't imagine the pain she is going through; but it is misdirected at the law-abiding citizen who risked his life to protect others. That man is a hero, and his actions are not questionable. Unfortunately, her son's were; but she fails to realize and/or acknowledge it.

As for KSAT12, thank you for demonstrating why there is such a disregard for what the media considers "news" these days! This is horrible journalism and reeks of a liberal political agenda. Now I know why I and many others no longer watch your local news anymore, it is such stories as these that have lost all credibility you might have once had!

Note the one comment, which syncs with how I remember the story being originally reported...
This story is not the same story I read when it originally happened. It originally said the robber pointed the gun at the shooters wife and children when they exited the bathroom and the robber was told that they had no money to give him.

This also fuels the believe that KSAT12's intent was an anti-gun rights bias here.

I don't understand your rant. I went to the link and read the news report. The mother is grieving, what did you expect her to say? The report seemed fairly written to me and painted a picture a not too bright mother and her out of control son. I don't see the anti gun spin either.

From the link in the OP:
"That’s when the man, who had a concealed handgun license, fired several shots at Herrera.

"A police spokesman later said, 'Here in Texas, if you’re in fear of loss of life, loss of property, you have a right to defend yourself.' ”

Blaming the shooter for defending his family against her son who was committing an armed robbery is not grieving, it's placing blame on him when it was her son who was at fault. There is a clear insinuation that the shooting was excessive and could have been avoided. I understand her loss but she needs to place blame where it belongs, and KSAT12 should never have given her a venue to accuse the shooter of acting inappropriately when he clearly didn't. They are also guilty of omitting/removing facts that were prejudicial to the robber. I think all that was pretty clear...

You do realize KSAT follows CNNs lead. In the Sulphur Springs coverage, CNN and KSAT were the only stations reporting the good guy “wrestled” the bad guy to the ground.

KSAT12 is an ABC-affiliate owned by the Graham Media Group, which is headquartered in Chicago and has historical ties to the Washington Post and Newsweek.

Grief or not, mama don't get to ask that question of a law-abiding citizen taking out the "trash". PERIOD.
