Sad any time a life is taken.

However, the mother is probably lashing out due to her own guilt. She likely knew of the problem. Lifestyle may have contributed. Now the guilt is hitting home. Human response is often to blame others rather than self.

I beg to differ loss of life is not always sad. In this case its another scum that was causing harm to others removed from the gene pool it was a plus to humanity.

Was the shooter justified? Of course! But she can ask any question she wants to, whether it makes sense to you and me, or not.
She can, she did. Doesn't mean I won't decide to stop feeling her pain and call her a jughead and laugh at her twisted value set. Not to mention the media giving her the damn platform to be an idiot.

That accomplice who was with/helping hims SHOULD be up for a murder charge since there was a death as a result of their attempted robbery. Put that scum in the lock up before someone else's life is changed or ruined for ever.

It is codified in Texas Penal Code Section 7.02, Criminal Responsibility for Conduct of Another.

    (a) A person is criminally responsible for an offense committed by the conduct of another if:

    (1) acting with the kind of culpability required for the offense, he causes or aids an innocent or nonresponsible person to engage in conduct prohibited by the definition of the offense;

    (2) acting with intent to promote or assist the commission of the offense, he solicits, encourages, directs, aids, or attempts to aid the other person to commit the offense; or

    (3) having a legal duty to prevent commission of the offense and acting with intent to promote or assist its commission, he fails to make a reasonable effort to prevent commission of the offense.

    (b) If, in the attempt to carry out a conspiracy to commit one felony, another felony is committed by one of the conspirators, all conspirators are guilty of the felony actually committed, though having no intent to commit it, if the offense was committed in furtherance of the unlawful purpose and was one that should have been anticipated as a result of the carrying out of the conspiracy.

    Acts 1973, 63rd Leg., p. 883, ch. 399, Sec. 1, eff. Jan. 1, 1974. Amended by Acts 1993, 73rd Leg., ch. 900, Sec. 1.01, eff. Sept. 1, 1994.

Sec. 7.03. DEFENSES EXCLUDED. In a prosecution in which an actor's criminal responsibility is based on the conduct of another, the actor may be convicted on proof of commission of the offense and that he was a party to its commission, and it is no defense:

    (1) that the actor belongs to a class of persons that by definition of the offense is legally incapable of committing the offense in an individual capacity; or

    (2) that the person for whose conduct the actor is criminally responsible has been acquitted, has not been prosecuted or convicted, has been convicted of a different offense or of a different type or class of offense, or is immune from prosecution.

    Acts 1973, 63rd Leg., p. 883, ch. 399, Sec. 1, eff. Jan. 1, 1974. Amended by Acts 1993, 73rd Leg., ch. 900, Sec. 1.01, eff. Sept. 1, 1994.

This sounds just like what happened when I was in Little Rock this last weekend. Three teens pulled over at 1am for a traffic stop. One of them, a 17 year old has a handgun and shoots at police. Police return fire, killing him. Family is publicly saying that the racist cops murdered him, and they should have just tackled him and taken the gun away.

I get your point, but in this case, there was no "murder" with which to charge the accomplice. Although, in Texas, he will be charged with at least aggravated robbery as a "helper", even if he didn't present the weapon himself.

One thing that just sort of sits wrong with me, is when they report that the robber "was killed", etc. (might have just been the context in the reporter's statement)...

But actually, and esp in Texas, any time you venture into a robbery with a gun, one is essentially attempting to commit suicide, which in this case, the attempter was successful...

The problem is she failed her son and the shooter by not contacting the authorities that her son was a harm to himself and others because he has not taken his medication for over 3 weeks. It is unfortunate that the right people are not held accountable.

The 19 y.o. man was not a child. He was responsible for his own actions and suffered the consequences. No medication I can think of short of those that sedate a patient into an obtunded state are going to prevent a person from exhibiting criminal behavior. Armed Robbery is not a Psychotic Behavior, it is a calculated action with the intent to steal money or property. The young man’s Mother did not Fail him. She is a victim of the grief this young man brought into her life. In the majority of these cases so called mental problems result from voluntary use of illicit street drugs.

Is this satire? I'm sure she never had any good models herself, but yes she is a big part of the problem, as is the absent father.

Ehhhhh!!!! WRONG! The man was responsible for his own actions. No further argument. Case closed.
