The you get what you pay for thing...

I’m a woman. Bargain shopping for to pay pennies for valuable stuff is what WE DO. I know value when I see it or I wouldn’t use it. Maybe it’s not valuable to you. But what I do is valuable to me.

When is the test of what it (a cheaper class, or self training) has meant to me in terms of improving my skills and by how much?

And when is the test of what I have missed out on by not taking a more costly (or valuable?) training?

How will we determine if I have passed or failed taking my responsibilities seriously and having my priorities in line? Even the result may not tell us that, as correlation does not equal causation.
The test is undefined and undermined. It could happen at any time. Pass or fail...death is the results one way or another.

You’ve implied that cheaper classes or self training is inferior. If you don’t think that it is, then that’s my mistake in reading into what you wrote.
Self training isn't possible. I've been clear. Cheaper classes is different. The only issue is see w/ cheaper classes is quality of instruction might be inconsistent generally. Also, coursework would be necessarily limited.

And I have been clear that it is possible. We disagree on that.

I don’t in any way see how a cheap class means inconsistent instruction. I can’t imagine what would make you think so.

I won't say classes are bad, but I will say that there are some that need more one on one time and obviously Roach011 is one of them. Repeatedly saying that "Self training is impossible" I might suggest a class in self esteem.

Roach, I think the issues a lot of folks on here have is with your attitude that if someone doesn't do what you do, or jump all over your recommendations, they are all wrong. We don't know you and you don't know us (forum members), but you're attitude speaks that if we don't necessarily agree with you, we are all stupid or ignorant. You might gotten much better acceptance from the crowd here if you'd not pushed you agenda so hard and had just "eased" into these conversational issues you bring up. That's just my two bits. Hang around but ease up some with your attitude.

This really degraded from something of value to mindless bickering. That's my fault. My aim was to discuss why people feel they don't need formal training. It seems that people either think they need it, or they think they don't. I hope we are both right.

Your stated goal was to find out what people's motivations were. It turns south when you began trying to tell them how they were wrong.

thats called disagreeing and presenting opposing view points but sure.

Your stated goal wasn't too present an apposing view. You chose to and in doing so turned the thread from your stated goal of learning about motivations to debating the importance.

You seem surprised that when you apposed the views of others they resisted, while resisting the views presented to you.

Y'all need to go to the range.
    Moonpie makes an excellent point.

In person, I'm sure Roach is a cool young man, full of enthusiasm and excited at the possibilities of life, looking forward to all he'll achieve. He's found a path to excellence and he's convinced of his duty to his fellow man to spread the word. We'd probably all like a range day with him; I'm sure he's a better shot than me and I'd learn just from watching him.

Roach, please come to a family reunion. I'll let you teach me something and loan you some of my old Fudd-y guns to play with.

But Roach, please, understand that however wonderful a person you may be in real life, in print you come across as a rigidly, offensively dogmatic name-dropper who repeatedly employs intellectually dodgy rhetorical methods to lead the conversation in meaningless circles.

    Chill out, son. Please.

I suggest you take a do-over. After a few deep breaths, head over to Introductions, tell us a little about yourself, and start over.
