It's a gay prancing pony on the side. It has the mystic powers of Colt. Old school American but a Bushmaster Snake relays the same message. I have a couple of Stag. Only reason because I like the deer. Have a S&W because that's more American points.

That is very, very debatable. Plus, their business model is "HK: Because you suck and we hate you"

But...but...the PONY! Buy it for the pony...

It looks like PSA is going to release their own line of American-made MP5 clones. SHOT should be interesting, as long as one avoids the grasping claws of the zombie AR15 industry.

Ya could always just build a Faux-SP1, (this one was built decades ago with a complete Colt SP1 upper, a non SP1 Colt Sporter lower and 'nam era A1 stock).

Cost around $400 for the upper and stock as I already owned the Colt Sporter pre-ban lower.

It's 38.8" in length, from the specs given at this link here reviewing the actual Colt M16A1 reissue done by Gun Digest (Dec 6th, 2016):

Price and nice pics in link.

PS - you'll notice there in the link that this is not actually the 601 SP1 variant with the slab-sided lower, (as it has ridges/fencing around the mag release button) but the length is correct.

SP1 with a forward assist? Heresy!

The XM16E1 model 603 was the first Colt produced and it had the forward assist.

The 601 and 602 models were produced under the ArmaLite label and if you'll check the title it says "Colt" SP1.

ps - the Colt "upper" in my pictures was sold by CDNN way back and labeled Colt SP1 upper complete when purchased. Besides, I did not hide the fact that it is a faux SP1.

    SP-1 vs. MP5

Apples and oranges. Both classic quality.

The SP-1 is like a vintage Ford Mustang.
The MP5 is like an old Porche 911.

    They are both great.

    They are utterly dissimilar.

If you have the means buy both.

I don't think you are really asking a question, as you already know the answer.

The last minty gun-show SP-1 I bought was April last year. 1974 serial I think.
A guy was perusing a big dealer table hoping to trade it straight-up for an $800 Picatinni-railed generic AR!
I spotted him before he engaged the dealer's eyes!!!
I whipped out the $800. He talked the dealer down to $740 out the door for the generic AR with the desired rails.
    Win/win in a clearly non-zero-sum game!!!

    :)
