It takes a ton of velocity to overcome twist rate issues. Unless it's borderline at the bottom end of the powder charge it's generally a waste of powder to try pushing fast enough to stabilize an unstable bullet.

rp - was concerned about Hornady 68gr HPBTs, it was noted that Sierra 69gr MatchKings would work - listing the barrel length of his rifle would tell me whether he could step up to the Barnes 70gr TSX bullets - one the most beneficial SD and hunting use bullets currently on the market for AR15 use. It was why I noted the missing information.

The only loads I've had a chance to load and shoot so far have been from a Nosler Reloading Guide 8.
    8, 8.5, and 9.5(max load) grains of 2400 with a 212 gr. Hornady
Have you considered 1680? It is one of the best at subsonic cycling. You can cycle even lighter bullets without cans on most properly gassed guns. After that, Lil Gun will give you good gas and h110 cycles fairly reliably over the 200gr barrier. Neither can beat 1680 though based on my work.

The guy conveniently ran out of 68 gr bullets so I have 500 vmax coming and also some 40 gold dots... Because I'm determined to find a Ruger in 40cal...

Just finished up 10 rounds to test tomorrow after it warms up. Working on lowering SDs so more a test of case prep and reloading process than accuracy.

Gonna get some 110gr TSX loaded for the 300BO and zero are 150 yards for an upcoming hog hunt as well. Getting about 2150 from an 8" barrel, might try to bump the load up a hair.

FWIW - and what ya do here is your business, but ya do realize that the 30 cal 110 grain TSX needs around 2000 fps for reliable expansion - perhaps the 30 cal 110 gr TSX-TX (black-tip), which expands with as little as 1300 fps, would a better choice for your short barrel @ your noted 150 yard range.

I'm aware, but they weren't available when I needed to buy them. The TSX should work well placed inside a swine cranium. I'd rather be certain of weight retention than risk over expansion and fracturing of the bullet using some other methods, and the 110gr will give a reasonable flat trajectory and larger PBR than moving to a 125gr Nosler or similar.

Sometimes you just gotta pick the best compromise and run with t.

    Gotcha :)

TSX is my favorite hunting bullet in 30-06, 308/7.62 and my go to swine round is the 110 TSX in 6.8mm SPC which I load hot (see 100 yd 5-shot group as avatar from my old CMMG 6.8)

I also run them in my AR15s - in the form of 70 gr TSX rnds, loaded hot (along with my custom loaded PR 100gr 5.56 experimental rounds that like the 300 BO are best inside 200 yards)

I've used the 150gr TSX in .308 and was perfectly satisfied with the results.

Went through a sow breaking her neck and shoulder, then nearly split a piglet in half.

Today I realized just how much 38, 40, and 45 I have laying around... I don't have anything that will shoot those. I have dies for 38 and 45 still and I still save brass for them. Does anyone else have this problem?

I've also been looking up load data for the new powder. I have to use a little more than I did with titegroup and 231, but it should still be worth it. Gonna go start loading some 9s with 124gr HSTs over 3 different charges to test out.

Anyone want to trade some rifle powder for some pistol powder?!? Honestly I though 33 pounds would have been bigger. One pound can shown for size reference.

Sounds like a good excuse to buy more guns to me!

Just looking for something I can load 223 with. I've been using h335 but open to anything that works good.

On a side note, how is h4198 for 223? Still have some from my AK days laying around but heard it doesn't ignite well in 223?

The pressure curve is not right for an AR. It will work if the load is just right but may take some work to find it.

Definitely not something I would buy to load for an AR with. Many better choices available.

No I just have about a half of a pound or so left from when I was loading for the AK. I saw some data to load 460 s&w for it and was thinking of trying it in there sometime as well.

I also heard h4895 doesn't work well. Is that correct as well?
