Throughout 2017 I was on a quest to find the right mix of guns. Both for range use and for regular carry.

After spending more than I want to admit and going through a year of buying and selling I came to a few realizations.

    First, I prefer to carry as much gun as is comfortable and;
Second, I like a change from time to time.

I finally settled on the P320 as my go to EDC and have the ability to carry it in 9mm, .40, SIG 357 or 45. For the most part all in the same holster.

So that out of the way I looked to the fact that I like to carry a 1911 from time to time as well. So this got me pretty settled on carrying either SAO or striker. My lone hold out from this theory is my Sig P229 SAS Gen II in SIG 357.

THe interesting thing I also observed was that of all the 45’s I tried I kept coming back to the P320 for its 10 round capacity and light weight. It is a very soft shooter as well and very controllable.

I had quite a few different types of 45’s through the year and aside from the P320 the other observation I made is, when it comes to 45 ACP it is truly very hard to beat the 1911.

I know not everyone is a 1911 fan, but when you compare carrying an 8 round 45, which lets face it they mostly are all 8 round guns, the 1911 really is just about the best out there to carry.

I even find myself opting for it over the P320 with 10 rounds because I like carrying it so much. Yes, I got a bit better an lighter version in commander length (Dan Wesson Guardian).

Taking a nice slim 1911 Commander with an extra mag is really quite comfortable and with just a little practice I have found few that do not shoot the 1911 well.

All in all a good year. Now, as I noted elsewhere, on to 2018 and getting to be a much better shooter.

    In the woods...
In 2017 I began a rotation that included the Jframe, which had been my go-to for decades, IWB with a Barami HipGrip. The rotation grew to include the PPK, the G 26, and the Beretta 92. The 92 has become one of my favorites!

Inasmuch as I love the 1911, I prefer the lighter weight and higher capacity of the Springfield XDM-45 5.25" Competition Series. Not ironically, outside of the width and weight, this pistol pretty much matches the dimensions of the 1911. Here it is next to my Loaded Target for comparison...

And I prefer keeping to ergonomically-similar handguns, so if I am not carrying the XDM I will most likely have my XD or XD-S. Familiarity lessens the chance of any mistakes under stress.

But that's the beauty of firearms, there is a large enough variety available that everyone can find one to their liking! God bless America!

    Cheers! M2

Massad Ayoob: "Carry the SAME gun, in the SAME holster, in the SAME location, ALL the time!"

oops, IIRC that is Ayoob quoting John Bianchi and his "Bianchi's Law": the same gun, in the same place, all the time

Massad Ayoob, I've admired him for many years. His carry of the 4506 S&W is what led me to buy my 4506. However I'd never try to hide that monster on my person.

He also said to carry the biggest handgun you can conceal. And, I do, a full size SR40, in a Galco leather OWB, and in the same place, all the time!

Unexpectedly, I find it easier to carry a "regular" 1911 than it is to carry the much more expensive Kimber UCDP .45.

Perhaps even more surprising, to others, with my having a safe full of all sorts of expensive stuff, is that one of my CC favorites is my Taurus Millennium Pro PT 145.

Not everyone has the luxury of being able to dress the same all the time. Changes in wardrobe dictate one's ability to conceal certain weapons.

Guess I was being selfish last night when I asked. My previous career gave me the opportunity to dress just the same as I do now 'cept with t-shirts now instead of polo shirts. I just forgot about all the other folks that don't have that luxury. My apologies.

I carry either a 1911 CCO or 1911 compact. Both conceal just fine.

If shirttail out, OWB. If tucked shirttail, shoulder rig.

I am retired, and my usual daily dress is jeans and extra long t-shirts. I carry OWB (I refuse to get pants 2 or 3 sizes larger to carry IWB) and I can conceal my 1911, SR-40 or any other of my smaller pistols with no problems. I can understand if others on here have to dress differently.
