After reading the great reviews here on TGT, I was looking forward to checking out Sons of Liberty Gun Works. Unfortunately, I wasn't impressed at all.

First of all, in order to find it your first time you have to call because it's hidden behind Guadalupe Lumber. (A little help on the website would be nice.)

Nobody acknowledged me when I walked in but there was about 6-8 people milling around, some looking at rifles. A couple guys were wearing shirts with the shop logo on it. But overall I couldn't tell who were the customers and who were the employees.

The area that appeared to be the retail area contained mostly t-shirts and Magpul accessories.

The place appeared to be in general disarray and chaos.

The register/bar area was littered with beer cans and liquor bottles.

I think I saw one guy in the shop area working on something. I wanted to see some of their custom work but wasn't sure if that area was supposed to be accessible to customers.

I stood there trying to check it out, looking through the group of people standing between me and that area but wasn't offered any assistance.

Did I just show up on a bad day?

They had this t-shirt that I thought was funny:

Modern Elite Firearms has some of the Texas themed uppers and lowers from Aero Precision.

I picked up a set today.

The lower is $109 and the upper is $99.

I made my first purchase from the Gun Shack in Helotes today and it was a good experience.

I started off by contacting them via their website with some questions about their products.

    I received a prompt reply.

When I went into the store every employee that wasn't with a customer asked me if I needed help.

I liked the selection of AR parts they had. I saw some trigger parts and other items that would be handy to get for a build without having to wait on internet delivery.

They also had a large selection of stripped lowers that seemed reasonably priced.

I ended up buying a couple lowers.

Great experience. I will go back.

I need a muzzle brake shim or two. Anybody have extra to give, sell or trade? (Or know which shop in SA would have them at a reasonable price?)

Or could anybody recommend something else that would work?

I saw a video online where a guy used a rubber o ring to fix a muzzle brake issue. He said he had no issues with it.

I used one on my rifle to correct my alignment. It worked perfect. I'll test it out soon and see how it holds up firing through it.

Wouldn't the heat from the barrel melt a rubber o ring? I am curious to know how that holds up to a hot barrel.

Anybody here in SA have a plain ol’ charging handle they want to get rid of for less than I can get online or locally? (I can get online for around $12.)

If you’re looking for a trade, I have a standard flash hider, a couple ejection port covers, a set of takedown/pivot pins and some barrel nut shims.

I would also trade one of these custom ejection port covers for a charging handle. It’s printed front and back. (It’s the cover only, not hardware.)
