I want to replace the sling mounts on my AR-15 with removable ones. The sling I am going to make will permanently attach to the rings which then makes it cumbersome to disassemble the gun. Removable mounts solves this. A google search gave a zillion hits, so I figured somebody on this forum has already solved this and can offer a nice solution.

My current sling mounts come off the bottom and I would like them to come off to the side.

    Any advice appreciated!

What's wrong with the QD sling swivels?

On my ARs I just have one of the rail mounted QD sockets and a SOPMOD stock with a QD socket. Removing the sling is just pressing 2 buttons.

Paracord is cheap, easy and quiet both in the woods and in combat - it's why the Israeli's have been using it for decades.........., such as shown below as I shoot southpaw.

......it also, (when used properly) provides an escape from hanging oneself outta a tree stand or any hang-up - by providing a secure fix to the rifle and a weak link which under high tension may save your life.

I will post some pictures of my gun. I like the button swivels but not yet sure where I would attach them. As I type, I am printing a possible solution on my 3D printer. It will give me quick release without making a mod to the gun. Stay tuned.

Here is the CAD image and a picture of the printed version attached to the current sling mount loop. I need to test for strength, but I am pretty sure this is going to be plenty strong.

With a sling attached, does the 2 sided plate eat into the hand? might work for my pistol.

On a rifle, no. Can't speak to how it might be on a pistol. But for under $20? Worth a try.
