    What kind of mag at what price would have been preferable?
    The ubiquity of Glock mags makes them the overall default preference. Others should only be chosen by folks who already have those mags. Price doesn't really enter into it even though Glock and Glock-compatible mags can be had at every price point.

    unless you're NOT a Glock fan... if you get the "Multi-mag" (non-Glock) Sub2000, it can be made to take different mags just by swapping out the mag catch:

    But you can, however change between Glock and Multi-mag by swapping the grip... for like $50 for the grip (there are compact & full-size versions), and $7 for a Glock catch, or $19.50 for multi-mag catch (including type of catch you need)
