I use to work out all the time. 7x a week for hours on end and I was doing pretty good. Just cant get motivated. I spend a lot of time studying and not so much getting out and im starting to notive how unhealthy im getting. I use to be 240 and now im like 267 last time I weighed in.
    I use to:
    run a 9:45 mile
    Bench press 295
Squat 315 (I hated squats not gonna lie)
    Curl 110

    BMI currently 28+
    5 10

Youtube videos arnt motivating like they use to be. What should I do boys?

I'd not trained in 20+ years until we moved down here. For me, to work with my psychology, it has to be difficult to make it to the gym; otherwise it loses it's sense of urgency/importance. For me, when I set my alarm for 04:45 AM M-F and made a habit of going to the gym by 5:30 at least 3 days a week, no matter what... it's become a routine. Maybe the 60 lbs. I need to loose are the motivation for me, but right now it's working great. Other things keep more motivated too; such as getting in better shape for run-and-gun events and motorcycle track days. I wish I knew a good secret to share.

I get a high from working out. It's always hard to get through the stretching at first but after I get warm and move from one exercise to another one, I feel stronger and it feels good to me.
When I get done I come home and eat some protein and carbs and get a huge energy spike that last for hours.
Although, working out 7 days a week is not productive.
You need some recovery time and shouldn't over work the same muscle groups back to back days.

Your muscles don't grow in the gym...they grow outside the gym during rest and recovery

Good points, and yeah... I get that euphoria too. Granted, I don't feel so "euphoric" when I'm getting up at 04-WTF to get into the gym before I start my commute to Austin... but when I walk out I'm feeling pretty damn sweet.

One good friends is a trainer, and turned me onto this chocolate milk thing. He like TruMoo, but HEB sells another with slightly better numbers from Fa!rlife 13g protein per serving. He recommended it for post-muscle annihilation recovery. He also instructed me to not work out more than 4 days a week or I'd just be tearing up my muscles and they would not recover. We also have lbs. and lbs. of protein powder on had (the Mrs. is a workout nut).

One of her motivations is that she "gets to have" some of that chocolate milk if she goes and works out. I tried the same trick but with craft beer double IPAs... sure I was motivated but I'm not sure it was the right post-workout treat..

most of the reseach says that post workout protein should be around 30 grams if possible, so you may be under feeding on protein post workout.
What do your macros look like?

I do 2 servings, as I've been shooting for at last 25g post workout. I'm pretty heavy right now so I'm consuming between 2300 and 2600 cals, with a target raio of 30% carb, 30% fat, 40% proteins. I've been using the MyFitness Pal app and a food scale to compute my numbers.

My motivation. I get to drink beer. Being honest. I don't step on a scale. Protein intake, 35 grams from eggs. Another 30 in a shake. Plus protein bars. Goal is a 100grams a day. I drink gallons of milk. Most of my carbs come from beer. I weigh around 240 with a beer belly. I leg press 630#, 4 sets, 8 reps. Squat machine, 360#. I dumbbell fly with two 90#. I curl with a 90# easy curl. Tricep extension, 150#. I also blast myself on the elliptical machine. 3 miles a day. 17.5" arms.

I stopped trying to look pretty in the gym. I love to lift and love beer just as much. The harder I work, the more beer I can enjoy.

LOL. Exactly. I was drinking a few beers last weekend, and the Mrs. asked "Why do you do this to yourself? You go to the gym all the time, then you sabotage yourself with beer!" I told her... "I go to the gym so I *can* drink all this beer and not weight 300 lbs!. :)" She quit asking me stupid questions.... for a couple of hours..

You can go into the gym and then go CrAzy over the small details. Counting every calorie, working out like your gonna try out for Army Ranger or some other annoying stuff. Chase that six pack stomach. Get cut. Look like a Calvin Klein underwear model. Lift for the vanity aspect. Jah' pump you up.

Phuck that. Drink beer and relax. Who really cares when you can snatch 300# off the floor? Big boy.

I use don't use My Fitness Ap to track food because it does not show you the actual grams only a percentage.
I have a daily target of 210 grams of protein a day so I use a different ap, My Net Diary to put in my food and it links to My Fitness and dumps my intake into it for me.

1 gram of protein is half the calories of a gram of fat or carbs, so eating high protein has lots of benefits even if you are trying to lose weight without eating at a calorie deficit

Cool! I'll give that app a try. I'm primarily a meat eater, so I'm almost always heavily biased to protein, with some exceptions... like today we're headed to the river house for beer, steaks and who knows what else will happen. I'll get that app today and check it out!

If you don't listen to or watch the Joe Rogan podcast, check out this one. His podcast is currently my top one to listen to.

When I wake up in the morning to a Blue Sky, good coffee, pull on my work boots and my best Putin Shirt and work a hard day in the summer sun on my John Deere.

It's gonna sound kinda cliche but you just gotta get up and do it. Do it for yourself and nobody else. And when the going gets monotonous or boring, you've gotta just keep going. No real easy answer to it, just simple ones.

Honestly I don't have a motivational issue. I don't say that to brag but rather it is habitual. Been doing some form of exercise since I was 16, now pushing 50. I actually feel bad when I don't exercise.
Maybe get a partner to workout? Listen to some rock tunes? Have a weekly reward for keeping your workouts?
Find something cuz staying healthy is important.
Exercise is one part diet is the other. My weakness is french fries and margaritas.

I'm in the W/NW Harris County area if anyone wants to work out with me as well. I specialize in strength and weightlifting but I can generally help out with most forms of fitness.

Watching supersize me worked for me. I dont eat fast food to begin with but just seeing how disgustingly fat and sedentary some Americans are is enough motivation to eat right and go work out regularly
