thats because it was not an evil assault weapon that drives even the most law abiding citizens to go out and start blazing away. Thats what has changed
We could by any thing from a.22 to a 30.06 and even semi-automatic. The .223 was probably the favorite for everyone's pickup window.

The most effective way to get your congressman’s attention is to call the House or Senate office direct and succinctly tell them the bill and whether you’re for or against. Don’t bother reasoning with the staffer, a quick “I’m against FixNICS and for CC reciprocity” suffices.

    Phone calls work wonders.
The problem seems to be the attaching the two bills into one. They pulled some slick maneuvering to cause the problem and if they don't read it they won't know they passed FixNICS only.

The biggest change, I think, was the progressive agenda that introduced the political correctness hyperbole. When they started attacking every thing from religion, racism and equality the gun control was just a natural issue for more government control.

I understand ,I was just reporting on the problem. If you don't read it to the last paragraph you didn't catch the problem.

It was simply a factual event related to subject you had posted about. It was not a comment on the issues of the bill itself.

I always participate in GOA’s pre-written email requests to my Congressional representatives but I have no illusions as to their effectiveness. My guess has long been “the staffers” simply record the subject matter of my contact and whether I was “for” or “against” it. I feel quite sure this simply gets reduced to a ‘data point’ on some tally sheet for a weekly or biweekly review. But I’m okay with that; at least the member gets a sense of how the winds are blowing on a given topic back home!

Sen. Cruz used to auto-respond like Sen. Cornyn’s office does but I noticed about a year & half ago, he stopped the auto-responses. Maybe he felt those kinds of replies were disingenuous or otherwise caught flack from his constituents over them. Personally, my sense is, Sen. Cruz is a very strong 2A supporter and proponent. So don’t take his silence as necessarily being a follower of Sen. Cornyn in these matters. He may not be vocal in opposing Sen. Cornyn but just wait and see how he ultimately votes.

    .

Email isn’t even a data point. Responses, if you get them. are just talking points. My beef with Cornyn is the his ‘official’ response to email starts with “My position...”. I could care less about his position. I’m the constituent; it’s my position that counts.

Gov. Brownbeck of Kansas just signed bill for no training/no license to carry starting in July.
I made a mistake about dates. Became law in Kansas 7/1/2015 sorry for my error. Sad to think that makes six with no permit laws and Texas doesn't even have online.

Dude, come out of the cave more often. It's way more than six states.

First you announce "news" that's almost three years old, then you misstate how many states have Constitutional Carry.

Sorry to disturb you but don't understand why someone opens or reply's to post if they are not interested in it. We can't all be up to your level, however I recently became less mobile and people talked me into the computer world. Also my Brother and I are old men and were curious about CCL's. Sorry to bother and Thanks.

I won't argue, but will say I've heard the opposite. The phone calls are greatly ignored because it's typically the same old folks calling in again and again and they're not the vote being courted.

Email isn’t even a data point.

Curious as to how you came to this conclusion? And also, are you referring to a direct email to said party, or does that also include going to their website and filling out the contact me form there?

So far, Cruz is the only one I remember not responding to comments made on the contact me section of his website. And that's something that his staff used to do from previous experiences. (Not debating about the canned response part though)

Politicians think mainly of their future as a politician, it would beyond senseless to ignore his constituents if they are planning on being reelected.

What about the analytics all the sports teams are using these days? You don't think politicians do the same thing to figure out how to dance around certain issues in order to appeal to just enough folks to keep them in office? If they consider your view to be of the 1%, I can see them ignoring you as they have more important things to focus on than keeping a small minority happy.

Playing to the possibility of just enough is risky business. If you are trying to sway a liberal democrat politician in your area, then of course you'll undoubtedly be ignored.

I know from personal experience, *somebody* reads the emails. Granted, it’s been twenty years ago (Kay Bailey) but I wrote her an email - off her website - requesting a flag that had been flown over the capital on a certain date and boom(!) an American flag shows up with a certificate attesting ‘this flag was flown over the U.S. capital, Washington, D.C. on xx date’. (It was the date my bride of twenty years ago, became a U.S. citizen)
