I'm the smoker that saw that coming, I also knew that after 9/11 we would lose some of our rights, that's why I'm so adamant about not giving an inch on gun control, it wouldn't be the first time we give in a little and lose a lot.

Point well made in the article’s example. IF the “antis” would {could} be honest with themselves, they and everyone else would soon understand the ultimate ‘end game’ is for there to exist this mythical utopia of a world without aggression. Que: the opening scene of “2001: A Space Odyssey” where the first bipedal humanoids discover the effectiveness of having a club in order to get want you want!

Agreed time to push back. After all we have states and cities ignoring federal immigration laws and marijuana laws. No need to allow them to make more laws to make more felons. Gun-free zones, and murder being committed, which were all against the law.

What you describe is known as a Confederation. Where state rights trump the rights of the federal government. That's dangerous thinking.

You have seven states that have legalized the use recreational use of marijuana:
Alaska, California, Colorado, Oregon, Massachusetts, Nevada, and Washington

You have four states identified as sanctuary states by the Center of Immigration Studies. The states are California, New Mexico, Connecticut and Colorado.

Colorado and California make both lists.

We can even look at Nevada a prostitution.

It all goes back to the federal government's supremacy and right of pre-emption. Unfortunately, there has been selective enforcement depending on what party is in power.

The bottom line is that we need to ensure that we call our senators and representatives to ensure that we do not lose our rights as guaranteed under the Bill Of Rights.

Great link from the NRA to email all of them at one time:

It's not about cannabis. It's about the bill of rights. Prohibition brought the gun control act of the 1934. Prohibition ended in 1933 by the way. The very first gun control...~after the fact~.

One not commonly known thing is that cannabis is forbidden in over 70% of California. Meaning...even though they consider it legal it's still not allowed in most major cities under penalty of local ordnance. Colorado needed the tax. Levels of 30% are imposed. A medical cannabis card is gun control.

The fly in the ointment is the federales. Pay the most attention to history. It's happened before.

Yes, they may all defy federal law, but I don't recall any of those other states saying they would fine people for complying with federal law.

That is true, nothing like a state wanting to fine people for complying with federal law!

Agree with the sentiment, but a really poor example to pick.

My owning a gun causes no harm to anyone, unlike second hand cigarette smoke.

Although I smoke and I certainly wouldn't want to force my smoking on anyone, I think it was an excellent example of where slowly giving ground can lead to an outright ban.
