I'm gonna have to try this whiskey stuff out. I've been dabbling with bourbon... Eagle Rare seems to be the ticket. Picked up some Elijah Craig on recommendation and I can't stand it.

Bulliet bourbon is good straight. Rye is not my thing, so I don't buy it. Angels Envy bourbon awaits me, have not had it, but my buddies say its really good. Gentleman Jack is good too.

For a mixer I use Rebel Yell. Its one of the oldest bourbons made. Its got an edge, which is why I like it with Coke. Some of the bourbons are too sweet for me with Coke, and sometimes, I just want a mixer.

You should try a good scotch to see if you like it. I like the single malts. Go to a bar and have a double of any 18 YO they have. Its expensive, but much cheaper than buying a bottle of 18 ($140ish) and then deciding you dont care for it.

Ranger Creek Rimfore is pretty good, definitely mesquite flavored. The regular Ranger Creek is a favorite of mine.

I started buying brands that are actually distilled in Texas a few years ago when only a few were, now they are quite a few brands.

FYI: Read bottles carefully; made in, bottled in, produced in, blended in, etc are not actually distilled in Texas. Legally a bottle has to, and can only say "distilled in" to have actually been distilled in that location, Texas for instance. I discovered this after buying TX whiskey the other year and then reading the bottle and trying to find out where it was distilled. Last I saw they say eventually they'll have one actually distilled in Texas but not yet.

I know that Jack Daniels Honey taste like cough syrup drinking it straight. I'm not much on mixed drinks. I like it straight up maybe with ice. Another vote for Bulliet. Excellent stuff. Jamison is still my favorite.

    Jamison is still my favorite.

Was in Dublin, Ireland a few years ago and asked the bartender what they had that was better than Jameson, he said everything. So, with his recommendation I had a glass of Green Spot. No water, no ice, wam, right out of the bottle. Phenomenal stuff, I now have two bottles of it.

That's $55 for a fifth. I can buy a gallon of Jameson for $45. The flavor to me is green apples falling off into a low burn, fresh smoothness. It also smells good. Cheap enough to pour on salmon to soak.

That's a good price, I paid about $80 the other year.

I was thinking/wishing a gallon. It's a half gallon. 1.75l. Twin Liquors will put it on sale every so often. I'd try the Green Dot but that'd be a special occasion for me. I think Jameson is expensive as hell too.

Bulliet is another desire. It's what you'd expect whiskey to taste like. Burn without the fire followed by seasoned oak.

They have released the TX Bourbon which is distilled and aged in Ft. Worth.

The TX Whiskey is the Blend. The TX Bourbon is what’s distilled here.

Bulliet sounds intriguing, I'll look into it. Green Spot is certainly worth the coin, in my humble opinion. Should you ever find yourself in my my neck of the woods I'll gladly share a drop.

And another, though not a Texas whiskey though fun to drink, is Leadslingers. A veteran owned company and fun to support. Mat Best is comical and his whiskey mediocre. He is also involved with Black Rifle Coffee Company. 'Merica!

My most liked Texas Bourbon for the price has to be Herman Marshall. Sip the bourbon neat or with rocks, and the rye makes a great old fashioned. For a bit more money I'd go with some of the offerings from Balcones Distillery.
