Regarding the rewards, the company that accepts the card pays a fee either based on interchange or tiered pricing. The 2% cash back cards cost me more than 2% in fees when I take them, so the cc company is making money no matter what happens.

For sure, but I don't think anyone thought the CC companies weren't making money on the deal.

    1. The credit card companies make more on average on you then you make on them. They are a multi billion dollar industry that spends a lot of money on getting money from you. Do you really think you are getting the better of them?

    2. While a few people make a few hundred bucks a year off this game, there are a boat load of people who are financially struggling because of credit cards.

    3. One of the biggest expense of credit cards is you spend more with plastic than cash. You impulse more. Even if you don't pay Visa a dime in interest, it costs you thousands.

    4. Credit cards don't make people wealthy, but they can make you broke.

    #1 - yes.
#2 - survival of the fittest
    #3 - debatable
#4 - CCs don't make you do anything outside of your own discipline. See #2

my corporate credit card and gas card both got compromised.

The gas card is useless without my employee ID and current mileage

The company CC only gets used inside gas stations and at hotels.

Not sure how these got stolen but I do know it's a major pain in my ass

I have sworn off using my debit card for most things, especially at gas pumps and if the card is leaving my sight. That paid off a couple of weeks ago because I had my CC skimmed at one of two locations, a Cheddar's or a hole in the wall gas station near Alvin. The CC company's fraud alert system caught the fraudulent transaction, a $100 at some northeast Houston gas station, immediately however they didn't deny it. They just flagged it and asked me to verify.

They took the charge off my account immediately, canceled the card and overnighted a new one. Fortunately it was a pain free experience for me.

I like the new QT card readers. They are made to prevent insertion of a skimmer.

Getting all those auto debits reworked is never painless. Just went through that for the fourth time.

Readers: verify there is no card skimmer installed by giving the pump a few tentative whacks with a medium sized sledge hammer!

I'm one of those that save money on a credit card. They give me cash back and I pay off the bill every month. Works great. About the only time I use a debit card is at WM where the card never leaves my hand. Anyplace else I use credit.

The wife's debit card got hacked and it was a minor pain to straighten it out. Go to the bank and fill out paperwork and it took a few days to get the money back, wasn't much.

.... About the only time I use a debit card is at WM where the card never leaves my hand. Anyplace else I use credit.

I used to only use my debit card at places where it never left my hand (mostly walmart), then I got scared of the info getting stolen since they can also run it as credit if they don't have your pin, so I put it in the drawer and didn't use it for 2 years.

Then I got a phone call from the fraud department at the bank asking if I had just used my credit card at a gas station. I said no I don't use it anymore (even to withdraw cash) because I'm scared it will get hacked. They said that's the only reason they caught it was because I hadn't used it in so long.

I asked how this was possible after so long. They said someone's computer system likely got hacked and it had my card info in it, even 2 years later.

I no longer even have a debit card.

Chase visa debit. Been hacked 3 times, usually resteraunt, they always catch the fraud call me and replace the cash right there on the phone cancelled the cards and send new ones out.

No big deal as we have several accounts we can move money around and keep 2 months worth of cash at home so even if the worst happens were not screwed.

I think the key here is no pin used. I havent been thru that.

Mine recently got skimmed too. $362.00 charged in San Marcos. Wells Fargo credited it back to my account within minutes of reporting. cancelled card and issued a new one. I will just use credit card from now on to prevent direct access to my account.

I travel several days a week and must use credit cards frequently. I've had the banks call me immediately after suspect charges are made, asking if the charges belonged to me. Haven't lost any money but it's a pain having your card canceled while you're on a business trip.

I haven't had any card fraud but I have had someone get a big tax return in my name and recently I had someone alter and cash a check that must have been deposited using a phone app.
