I really like my Savage Mark II FVSR. My daughter really likes it too.

Good sized stock for youth shooters.

Plenty accurate. Threaded for suppressor use if that is a concern.

Picked one of these up over the holidays, for dirt cheap. I can't wait to actually shoot it LOL

I've been having a pretty big raccoon problem around my feeders lately. I go out a lot at night for hog hunting, and it's not unusual to see half a dozen of them at a time eating away on the corn. I decided to set up one of my .22's and see if I could get it to shoot accurately enough at 100 yds. to take out a few of these critters.
I have a threaded barrel for a 77/22, so I put it on one of mine yesterday, mounted a 3x9 Leupold scope I had laying around, and screwed a YHM suppressor on it....and headed for my range. The only subsonic ammo I had laying around was some CCI and after sighting in at 25 and then 100, I was shooting pretty consistent 1 1/2 inch groups with it.
I think a different ammo might help with the groups as the CCI sounds pretty inconsistent. It seems to go from subsonic to supersonic now and then, and I think my groups would improve greatly with more consistent ignition.
Anyway....I think at this point I am at least at MOC (minute of coon) accuracy level. Now I just have to get out again and see if I can nail some under the lights on my feeders at night.

Honestly I thought of that and am planning on doing something like that but the 223 is still a little rough for my 8 year old. And I would like a longer range 22 just because i think it would be fun. maybe a 22mag would be better for what I want.
Take your 10/22 and do this to it.

I wish I could shoot on my property.

Totally agree, my .22 GSG5 with a cheapo TRS-25 optic is one of my favorite guns to shoot. It's a riot to load up a mag and start plinking.

I asked my rifle coach why we shot smallbores only at 50 feet and 50 yards.
He said that at 50 feet the bullet is rising into the target and at fifty yards it is descending into the target. Also, at 50 yards the best shooters will win and at 100 yards only luck will win because the shooters are at the mercy of the ammunition at 100 yards. .22 LR is too inconsistent at that range.
Hoji's 10-22 is similar to mine. I've got the blue Revolution stock and a black hammered bull barrel.
I will admit that .22 LR is fun at 100 yards in a benchrest.

The ammo is just as inconsistent at 50 yards as it is at 100 yards, it's just more noticeable at 100. (I'm going to assume you understand how MOA works.)

The other part that makes things more interesting at 100 yards is how much the bullet can be affected by the wind.

Either way, you still have to stand up and shoot, and all things being equal the best marksman will win the day.

I shoot my 22's out to 200 yds all the time. We have a steel gong out there and it's fun yo shoot, then a bit later, hear the ding. It is a challenge when the wind is blowing. I shoot a CZ 455 Tacticool and a Kidd 10-22.

Use quality ammo and you will get better results. My 10/22 will make one hole groups at 50 yards and 1" groups at 100 yards...but only if I use the ammo it likes. I have a bull barrel on the 10/22 rifle and it makes a big difference - and makes it a chore to carry. My CZ 452 also has a heavy barrel (and is a chore to carry), but with Tac-22 ammo it is a one-hole wonder...from a rest. And, I shoot Lever Action Silhouette with a Marlin 39A at 100 Meters. With the right ammo (Norma Tac-22 and Eley Force) I can get 2" groups at 100 meters - accurate enough for Lever Action Silhouette.
You won't get good results with bulk ammo (although you might with AutoMatch)...experiment to see what your rifle likes.
Hint- clean the bore when you change ammo.

... I shoot Lever Action Silhouette...

Hey Michael, where do you shoot silhouette? I didn't know there was any silhouette matches down there in the Corpus area. I shoot smallbore and air rifle here in Houston at Bayou Rifles and PSC down south of town. Good to have another silhouette shooter on board!

    Allen...
Silleywet! Yea, I heard of it.

Yes, I do. I used to shoot SB Silhouette, but found Lever Action more fun (and, too many "serious" people shooting SB).
I'll shoot in the State Natch in Austin in April...if the Austin Bomber doesn't blow the place up.
I drive to matches in New Braunfels or Austin...nothing in the Corpus area.
I considered going to one of the Houston matches, but never found directions to the range(s).

I considered going to one of the Houston matches, but never found directions to the range(s).
For the Bayou Rifles matches, it's easy. Approaching from the west headed east on I-10 (aka Katy Freeway), exit well before you get downtown at North Eldridge Parkway. Turn north (left). Drive just a bit less than a mile. You'll cross the top of the dam and the entrance to the range is on the right, immediately after the crest.

It's very easy to blow right past the entrance.

Coming from Corpus, you'll be on 59/69, headed northeast. In that case, you divert straight north using either 99 (has tolls) or 6. Either of them will take you up to I-10. When you hit 10, turn east. If you use 6 to make the cut to the north, you'll find Eldridge is the first exit east of 6. It's not actually necessary to get up on the freeway.

    See: https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewe...&ll=29.785695873491843,-95.6224519942894&z=15

Bayou Rifles is a great club when it's not underwater. :)

For the PSC matches in Friendswood, see: https://www.google.com/maps/place/P...d71653d6237e2b!8m2!3d29.4651254!4d-95.2169287

To get there, you start the same way but exit 59/69 at SH 6 and make a right instead of a left. At that point, you have about 25-30 miles of driving ahead of you and the route you choose is pretty much up to your preferences. The main roads are a bit of a longer trip but the map link should get you there.

PSC is also a great club.

I've been a member of both and am currently a member at Bayou Rifles. Love 'em both.

I recently mounted a scope on an old 10/22. I sighted it in at 25 yards. After I was done i decided to see what it would do at 100 yards. It was not the most accurate thing in the world but I quite enjoyed it and thought it would be some good practice for my son to shoot at longer distances with a rifle with such low recoil. Does have any experience with an accurate .22 out to 100 yards. I was thinking of getting one of those ruger precision rimfire rifles but am open to other options, especially cheaper ones. oh and i don't car about shooting the smallest group ever. I just want something to make a reasonable group at 100 yards for some cheap trigger time at a target past 50 yards.
Here's what's possible at 100yds with cheap bulk ammo (Remington Thunderbolt .22LR) using a CZ 455 Trainer with a 3-9x32mm AO scope zeroed at 50 yds off a front sandbag - 2 MOA, 7 rds using a single shot adapter. Better ammo would probably produce a tighter group.
