9mm can be acceptable if you choose the right 9mm variant... For example, 9x23 or .38 SuperCooper loaded to their max potential. I converted an RIA .22TCM/9mm double-stack mid-size to .38 SuperCooper and like it, even though for the most part, I'm a 10mm / .45 person. I make my brass from .223 brass, often giving it new life after having gone through previous lives as other calibers -- .223, neck splits, convert to .300AAC, and when neck splits on that, convert to .38 SuperCooper or .22TCM.

You do realize that was in jest.
Arguing OC vs CC and, 9mm vs .40 vs .45, are no win scenarios .

There are a few points I don't necessarily agree with (such as you must inform someone who mistakes you for a LEO as otherwise it may be construed as impersonating an officer); but for the most part the author makes articulate and well thought out points in favor of open carry, some of which were new to me.

I believe it is one of the best most coherent arguments in favor of OC I have ever read...

Totally agree. I've been told my whole life how foolish and ignorant it is to OC by folks who don't carry either way and by some who CC. If concealed is all we have then concealed it is. No questions asked. But now we have OC, NEW possibilities.

I think my biggest hang up is I don't like attention drawn to me... never have. Although I'm a big guy... so I usually get it anyway. But seems like to me OC will draw just that more attention my way. And maybe people don't really notice it... But I DO! I'm always aware when I see someone OC. But i'm always scanning, checking and looking at people when I'm out. I usually have my babies with me, so I'm always running in yellow mode. I would have to say that the majority of the public is usually in green through.

....and it makes you want to get better-looking holsters.

Someone also once mentioned that as gun owners, and often enthusiasts, we spend a lot of time and money picking out the perfect pistol, only to hide it CC.

I've OC my XD before in NC years ago. I've always wanted to OC my 6", nickle plated 44mag, no reason not to show it off.

Always wanted, just once, to OC one of my AR pistols. Holster is a problem, though.

Honestly, I have been regularly OC'ing for over two years now and the number of people that have noticed is nominal at best. In fact, I am almost astounded by how many people don't notice; but then again I haven't noticed that many OC'ers either!

As I mentioned, I have several tactical kilts that I like to wear when I am out and about (usually in more rural settings as I am not an urbanite) and even with my kilts drawing a lot of attention the pistol I am carrying goes unnoticed.

I tend to be one of those guys who like to keep up my situational awareness when I am in public, I am constantly scanning my environment and those in it to see what is going on around me. I know I cannot catch everything but if someone were to take unusual notice of me I usually detect it. I can honestly say I just haven't had that many people react to my openly carrying a firearm. I am not sure if it just goes unnoticed or they simply don't care, but it's just not often that I see anyone respond or behave any differently.

As I have also mentioned, the few questions or discussions I have had about OC'ing have been positive or at least neutral at best (people noticing and commenting to someone else); not once have I had any negative encounters or lectures from anybody about it. Even my mother, who has suspected me of being a tad overly paranoid due to my desire to be armed (concealed or otherwise) in public admitted after the Sutherland Springs church shooting that my reasons are probably valid.

I completely understand that some folks aren't comfortable with OC'ing, but at least they have the right to do so if they ever feel the desire. That is the bottom line to it all, our Constitutional rights "shall not be infringed." I see OC'ing as a public and in some cases necessary exercise of that very right!

    Cheers! M2

You have a tactical advantage though, you bend over if you think they are looking at your handgun. Put some damn underwear on!
