Ok, ya'll got my curiosity up so I had to go see what I had. It shows on the side Made in China By Norinco. The stock has been changed to a folding one and the mag modified for detachable. The original stock and fixed mag are there to put it back original. Also have the original box. It's never been fired. Any ideas as to the value? It's not for sale but curious. Also have a ham can of ammo. View attachment 134177 View attachment 134178 View attachment 134179
Hard to say exactly the value. Just depends on what someone would be willing to pay. Looks like the bayonet lug is gone, which may hurt the value. Also some people are willing to pay more depending on which arsenal it came from. The most popular being the triangle 26.

Unfortunately, those modifications actually reduce the value of the rifle; but as you have the original components it would be worth more if you return it to its original configuration.

That said, most Norinco SKS rifles run in the $350-450 range at best. They are very common variants. The good news is they are slowly but steadily going up in price, so the longer you hang on to it the more it will be worth; but as yours sits, it's probably worth $275-325 at most.

Another thing, I honestly doubt it's never been fired. It may not have been shot much, but it is extremely rare that such a rifle has never had at least a few round through it. And to be honest even if it has never been fired that really doesn't add anything to its value. That caveat only really applies to rare AK rifles.

My advice would be to return it to its original state and shoot it. Most "bubbas" (as modified SKS rifles are known) are aberrations and shunned by collectors. I have one, a Yugo, that was TAPCO'd out before I got it at a relatively cheap price. It's not worth returning to stock but it's worth even less the way it is. I'm keeping it as a cheap shooter, something I don't have to worry about but if I ever need a reliable 7.62x39 rifle that I can beat the shit out of, I'll have one.

    Cheers! M2

Dang, a jungle stock? I should've been paying more attention, I've been wanting one of those for a while!

Oh well, if for any reason you don't want it after you shoot it, let me know! I know it's a very slim chance, but just in case! :D

    Otherwise, nice rifle! :loaded:

    Cheers! M2

Well shoot, now I feel bad. I really do appreciate the lead. If I ever sell it, you get first crack.

I went to a gun show many years ago and there was dealer that had crates of Norincos and was selling them for $59 each. He also had some carbine models for $69. My friend was with me and bought one of the carbines for his son. When he got it home and fired it he found out why they were so cheap. It was not very accurate and every now and then it would fire 2 or 3 rounds with 1 trigger pull. It could be that he may have just got a bad one.

Every SKS I have ever shot--to include my bubba--has been as reliable as an AK and even more accurat.

Of course, certain things can foul up the gas system; so your buddy may not have thoroughly cleaned out the cosmoline before shooting it.

Most of the malfunctions I have seen with SKS rifles were due to aftermarket magazines. Even the duckbill ones can be unreliable, also the larger 20-round "starred" aftermarket Chinese ones that look like a bigger variant of the original. Simonov rifles should be left in their original state, and when cleaned properly run like a tank!

Yep. Very accurate, and reliable. I have a bubba rifle. It shoots great, and has never spit the bit.

It's pretty amazing to me just how functional they are. It's a killing machine. Nothing of beauty about it. Just a tool of war.

Thanks for all the responses. I had 2 and gave my SIL the other. It was all original and still so full of cosmoline it can't be fired until cleaned.
