Took my wheel weights out to a friend's house. We used his turkey burner to melt them down. Came out with about 40 lead muffins at about 60 pounds total. He was impressed with the whole process. His wife was too until some popped and she got some splatter on her arm. She got a small burn but she was ok and not too mad about it. I had a little water on my slag spoon and forgot to heat it off before I dipped into the lead so it popped. It was a good reminder that hot lead is VERY unforgiving.

Yep. I used to cast in shorts and a tee shirt in summer. (Young, dumb, and bullet proof) After the first time I got a visit from the tinsel fairy (luckily I was back enough to only get a few small specks on me), now its long sleeves, jeans, boots, gloves, and safety glasses! Even thought about a face shield! I also cast in the AC and I place my lead in the pot (20 lb lee) and let it melt down as it heats. I dont add lead as I cast other than what has already been melted during that casting session (sprue cuttings, bad bullets, etc). If I need to add lead, I shut it off, let it cool till solid, add the lead and reheat.

Sounds a little paranoid, but the one time mine popped, I added a cast ingot that I thought had been inside since I cast it a couple weeks ago. Turns out, my 5 year old and his friends had been playing with them with the water hose and put them back. The ingot looked dry and didnt pop immediatly when added (thank god). I dropped a few in my half full hot pot, spun around and rolled my chair away to grab something and as I was spinning back, POP!!!! Only thing I can figure is there was a void and water got wicked into it. Didnt pop till it melted to the void! It'll sure wake you up!

The local guys have been experimenting with the Ruger American Ranch rifle in 7.62x39. These little rifles are VERY accurate even using steel cased Russian ammo! One friend shot a 1" 3 shot group at 200 yards using "Brown Bear" ammo!

So.............I ordered a bunch of 7.62x39 brass and 500 of Midway's factory second bullets for that rifle.

Been casting bullets. Over 2k .45 ACP, mostly with two cavity molds. I did crank out some H&G 130s with the four cavity.
You should really invest in the 6 cavity Lee mold. You can really crank them out with that one.

Is this the new bolt action that takes the mini-30 magazines? Those looked really cool.

EDIT: also, too bad I just sold all my 7.62 brass and stuff if I find anymore I'll let you know.

I'm still jealous of that thing!

Which piece did you add and how does it target aluminum cases? Great idea though.

Aluminum is light and if you blow on it, you can force it to fall off. For some reason it won't let me post movies but it is amazing what a little air will do.

Discovered a few 9mm that enjoyed a short stint as 40S&W while sorting brass barrels today. Took a while for the shooter to notice it seems, looks like most of a magazine.

I’m gonna drink the Creedmoor kool aid. We’ll see how it tastes

Well shit... The other Roger started on about how awesome the Ruger American was so I started looking it up. Before long I decided I was dead set on the Ruger RPR. Found a 6.5 for under $950. My current stash cash is only about $750.

Now I could probably swing the extra $200 and get the RPR.... But I can't afford a $500 scope for the damn thing even if I do buy it. To top it off I had an offer to buy back my old AK, with mags, ammo, and sight for $700. I'm not sure I want the AK again though as I dont really want to to buy all the x39 reloading crap again, yet with the 6.5 I'll have to buy new stuff anyways.

So, from a strictly budget standpoint, I'm going to hold off until I can get a rifle, dies, and a scope all together. Reloading has greatly influenced my rifle buying habits.

I drank it recently. Got dies, brass and powder before the rifle showed up. So far, I've only shot a couple of boxes of factory ammo through it, but tonight I finished loading up about 80 140g matchking rounds. I'll burn through those this weekend trying to 'splode some prairie dogs. So far, I like it. By Monday, I'll really know how I feel.

Loaded up a bunch of 223 match rounds the other day.

Put my recent bullet order away. Running out of room. Good problem to have.

Also got my swager parts in so that is ready to go.

Looking at all the 223 range brass I have makes me feel the to order some kind of fancy trimmer.
