Most common calibers are at the lowest prices I've seen in 5 years. Heck, even the uncommon calibers too. It's a good time to buy. I should get another 1000 of everything I shoot, but honestly, storage space is a problem.

I'm lucky, I just use the closet in my office.
Installed two 6ft tall steel shelf units.

    Still not enough room, lol....

Many folks do not have much in the way of mags.
    • My goals are:
      • 10 mags per centerfire pistol,
      • 20+ mags per centerfire, medium-powered semi-auto rifle,
      • 2 mags plus a spare for purely paperpunching pistols, and
      • Enough revolver speedloaders to feel comfortable.
    • My reality is:
      • 10 mags per pistol for my two most likely SHTF pistols,
      • 10 mags for each Glock not chambered in 9mm,
      • 6 mags per pistol for most other centerfires,
      • 50 mags plus a couple of drums for my only centerfire, medium-powered semi-auto rifle,
      • 3 mags, minimum, for all range toys,
      • 20(?) Glock 9mm standard mags and ~6 33-rounders because they fit multiple pistols and one rifle,
      • 5 or more speedloaders for all revolvers for which I think speedloaders are appropriate, and
      • more moon clips, stripper clips, and speed strips than I can count.
I can live with that. YMMV.

I only have 4-5 mags for each handgun, but I ended up with 40 AR mags. Quite a hodge podge of D&H, Magpul, Brownell's, and Lancer. Both 20 and 30 rounds. 8 mags for the Mini 14 counting the original 5 round. Most are 20 rounds. Very few of my AR mags are loaded. A couple 30 rounders and 5 or 6 of the 20 rounders. I should do something about that.

My ammo supply is running a little low right now. I just helped my son stock up his ammo locker, and then had a few big range days. I’ve reached critical levels on 9, 45, 223, and 308. I also need to replenish the reloading supplies. I’m down to less than 5 lbs of Varget.

Only thing I'm running low on is 9mm.
I have been shooting, but not bought much of anything in ~2 years.
Down to 3k in my 9mm.

I actually feel that 66 mags/per handgun is excessive.

ETA: I came up with the number 66 by averaging handgun mags at 15, and divided that into 1k rounds.

For handguns, I would not go that far either.

But in general, a number of folks I know only have four or five mags for their rifles. If it hits the fan, I would certainly want more rifle mags.

Sorta related...all of my AR mags are Pmags.

How durable are these compared to metal mags?

I can't find it now but InRangeTV did a long and detailed "What Would Stoner Do" segment where they surveyed the history of AR mags. They went back to the beginning, where the fragile aluminum magazines were conceived as disposable after one use, and worked their way forward covering all sorts of minutia that went completely over my head.

What they said about durability was that a damaged P-mag was obvious and could be immediately recognized and discarded. Metal magazines, though, could be bent slightly out of spec and cause all sorts of problems that will have you chasing your tail and pulling out your hair looking for the root cause.

For that reason and a dozen more that I don't remember, their conclusion was to just use P-mags.
