I have been wanting to do this for 2 years and now it looks like I have the time and money to work on it finally.

I already have one 20ft container at my rural property and I am buying another one just like it and placing them with a 18-20 span in between them and then build a common roof over both of them,
This is similar to what I am envisioning

They make and sell roof kits that do this, but they are close to $4k and I know I can build it for much less.

So, I need your imput on how to do this. I have built standard 4 post carports with red iron and a welder but this is something I need some help on to figure out.

TxStetson is right about trusses. Trusses are easy to build. Lots of ways to do it. Get your pitch in mind and get after it. Brace them good in several directions. If I was doing something like that, I'd just cut 3/8" plywood gussets from full sheets to match the angles and screw them at the connections. Where are you doing this?

I’d probably go all metal to make it last almost forever. Make sure you have at least a 2 in 12 pitch so the water runs off easily.

Way easier to just put a sloped roof over it. Slope it front to back and run 2xs straight across the containers. Block between them and screw your metal right to them.

I can't figure out in my head how that would look in the front
That way would cost less for sure

Just think of a normal range shooting cover setting on the boxes. Would just look straight across the front.

I just wasn't sure if you wanted the fancy truss look like your picture.

You could skip the second box and just use a beam and posts too. Probably cheaper.

If you are thinking wood material costs jump when you get over 16' too.

I need the 2nd container for more storage , so I'm getting it for sure
I will go steel all the way , no wood

I could build up the front height by 24 inches and run big purlin length way towards the rear
That would shed water fast and hold up to a freak snow storm also
