Well, I finally made it. I am in Westchase just outside Beltway 8. FYI, driving a Penske truck from CA to Houston in 2 days is a TERRIBLE IDEA!

Now to wait the 6 months to apply for my TX CHL. (Does anyone know of a Florida or Utah instructor in the Houston area? It might be worth it to get one of those states' non-resident permits while I wait for the minimum time of residence for TX.)

Not that im aware of... I know theres that one thats members only right across from me off of Bohemial hall.. Heck, I use my back yard.. LOL

Military personnel now stationed in Texas, just like civilians, may obtain a concealed handgun license as soon as they arrive. It is no longer required that the individual reside in Texas for six months prior to applying. emphasis added Tx DPS - CHL FAQs

I looked up the FAQ that you referenced. It seems to be the only place that mentions getting a CHL (as a civilian) without waiting 6 months first. I even went into the text of HB 2730 and it still has the 6-month requirement.

Can anyone else comment on this?

Grew up in Decker Prairie. I also lived between Tomball and Waller on 2920 @ Becker Rd for 2 years but my BIL lives in that house now.

BE CAREFUL ON 2920 in that stretch. I saw too many people get killed right out side my house. The speed limit is 55 but only 10% of the drivers actually observe that. Certain other drivers get pissed at the ones obeying the law and cause wrecks.

Also, the Showboat drive-in theater causes stupid traffic jams on weekends. Hopefully something will be done about it soon.
