No, Darwin was right. Unfortunately.

Among folks my age, Darwin was taught to us in terms of random selection - variants appear and, if they help, will be retained. He, however, was also keenly aware of the impact of sexual selection, something that my teachers and professors never touched on. The scientific community is a bit more openly appreciative of the impact of sexual selection these days. It doesn't matter how inferior a variant is; as long as it breeds successfully and often, it will thrive.

Bottom line - Evolution will never rid us of idiots; they tend to have too many kids.

The movie Idiocracy explained it perfectly.

The movie Idiocracy explained it perfectly.

Like all movies, it exaggerated things for entertainment value. However, it did have an entertaining explanation of the way sexual selection works if someone really doesn't understand the concept.

Idiocracy is a good movie. Everybody should see it at least once.
