Question, 22 magnum, what’s it good for? I have a couple 22s and it’s great for shooting little varmints with my boys. But I’m trying to justify a 22 magnum if it’s worth it compared to the 22lr

It doubles the effective range of a .22LR.
Is it worth it? I think it is.
Increased power and range vs. ammo cost.
22Mag ammo isn't exactly cheap anymore but it is still less expensive than anything centerfire if you do not reload.
There are many different ammo/bullet choices as well.
Have seen 30,35,40,and 50 grain ammo.
Recoil is minimal so everyone can enjoy shooting it.
    Relatively quiet as well.
Another aspect of the .22mag(vs. the .17HMR) that most never consider is you can fire .22lr in one. Accuracy isn't great but in a SHTF situation you can use it.

I own a 22 mag ruger American. Its the perfect light weight rifle and perfect for younger or weaker shooters that could use more than a 22lr.

Fondly remember varmint hunting with my Ruger Single Six convertible with 22mag rounds, everything from jackrabbits and prairie dogs to squirrels. One of the most fun to shoot pistols I've ever owned.

Thanks! I've seen a lot of ads for them but have not known anyone that had one and have never seen one in person.
It was a friends. Got to shoot it a lot and cleaned it for him as I was gonna buy one. I decided not to. Its a neat idea. I will tell you though it handles hot stuff well and is fun to shoot that savage a22 ammo out of!

Anybody have or ever shoot one of these?

    Ditto on what Moonpie said.

I own one... I like the little booger a lot, but they are picky with ammo selections.
As long as you shoot a solid nose bullet out of it, you can shoot 30 rounds from the mag no problem.
I like the the Hornady 30 grain Vmax in mine... she will run a whole mag as fast as you can pull the trigger with no issues. If you use hollow points or the Hornady PD stuff, you can get about 15 to 20 rounds before you have a failure to feed. I would like to get the CMR30 ... the carbine version of the PMR30 to add to my addiction.

I also have a Henry Golden boy in 22mag... i like it a lot too. Right out of the box @ 50 yards she was dead on with open sights. I havent shot it but a few times in the last year but am happy with it.

There are tons of options for .22mag, my next one i think will be the CMR30, but he Magnum Research magnum light is a close 2nd. Savage also has the A22 magnum or the Ruger American bolt gun... i have one in .17HMR.

Shop around on Gun Broker before you buy a PMR30. I think right now they are going for about $350-$500.
When i got mine about 3 years ago i paid $550 + $35 shipping + $25 FTL.... & that was cheap for one back then. There was a joke that they were a unicorn guns because you could never find one & if you did most dealers wanted $650 - $750 for one.

I recently purchased a Savage 93BSEV bolt action in .22mag.
The gun is quite accurate with the A22 35grn ammo but the magazines/cycling suck. Constant fiddling to get it to feed.
Look elsewhere unless you're a glutton for punishment.

It's good for the same stuff a 5mm is good for...

I have savage in 22lr and it works great, I think I’ll pass on the 22mag version then lol

I had one of the earlier PMR-30 but sold it. It was a fun little obnoxious handgun but had a lot of feeding issues.

I bought my son a Ruger American in 22lr since we could use the 10/22 mags, I might have to look at the 22 mag version.

I used to have the Single six with two cylinders but sold it to buy another gun. Should’ve kept it.
