    Agreed.

Just a wrinkle in the facts as so far covered in this thread.

Yeah; the thread discussion has been a good one. I mainly fault the news article for being poorly written AND not being very thorough in its presentation of the facts of the case.

As has been pointed out in this thread and by CT’s “duty to retreat”, the victim is not allowed to present any after-the-fact aggression whatsoever. We may *assume* the initial attack was over and the victim is at fault due to him pursuing his attackers outside, but that version of the story was not presented in the article. We can only surmise that, based on the judge finding him guilty.

When I see the word Connecticut, yankee just seems to be the next thing in my mind!

    baboon,

The word that first comes to my mind is: DAMNyankee.,
(Most Southern-borns of my generation KNOW what was done to innocent/unarmed civilians, helpless POWs during TWBTS & what the carpetbaggers did to everyone who wasn't an "aristocrat" during Reconstruction.)

In 2018 only HS students who are homeschooled or went to private school are taught THE TRUTH about the 1860-1890 era.
(What upsets me about the teaching of history is that 80% of today's HS seniors, according to several polls, cannot even tell you in which CENTURY that WWII was fought. = HISTORICALLY IGNORANT describes today's typical HS graduate perfectly.)

I grew up a damn yankee outside of Shitcogo. Being from the "Land of Lincoln" their were those that tried to teach kids he was god like. My father taught me to doubt most everything.

Even @ the young age of 23 I knew Illinois wasn't working for me. I still for the life of me can not figure out why my siblings & their kids & grandkids choose to continue on being Damn Yankees. I guess I'm portrayed as the crazy uncle that left town. Im the 36 years I've been in Texas only once did a niece come visit and that was because she went to San Antonio first see her friend & only came to sleep @ my house overnight.

When Civil War II comes I will not be showing any mercy on damn yankees

I just make sure I drag em back on the property before the police arrive.

Yeah, but then you have to explain the blood trail after you managed to sever his femoral artery.

PS - not sure I’d *ever* get too excited about calling 911 real fast. Might as well give ‘em every chance possible to bleed out so that your side of the story gets the most “air play”.

    baboon,

    INTERESTING.

Have you read: TO DIE IN CHICAGO: Confederate Prisoners at Camp Douglas, 1862-65 by Professor George Levy??
(That book AND the equally illuminating book DACHAU IN AMERICA: Collected Documents & Letters from Point Lookout POW Camp 1862-65 by Dr. Raymond Wills will tell any thinking person about how CRUEL & RUTHLESS that the Radical Unionists were during TWBTS & why those of us whose family members suffered & died at those 2 DY HELLHOLES will neither forgive nor forget what was done to the thousands of helpless victims.)

Note: Our family had 4 members murdered in coldblood at Point Lookout & one soldier-boy beaten to death with rifle butts at Camp Douglas.

    No never read it.

    baboon,

Had you read those 2 books, you would understand WHY the events of TWBTS & during Reconstruction have NOT & will NOT be forgotten in Dixie for generations.
(Hardly anyone in the South is bitter about losing the war but many have not forgotten the WAR CRIMES committed by the Unionists, that were visited upon the victims simply because our ancestors wanted FREEDOM from a faraway government, that they believed, with good cause, was likely to become evermore dismissive/abusive of their natural RIGHTS.)

ADDENDA: Chattel slavery was NOT a primary cause of the Secession, as only about 7-9% of Southerners ever owned a slave & therefore had no reason to go to war to "protect a few rich guys 'right' to be in the flesh trade". The constant repetition of the LIE that "Slavery was the main cause of Secession" does not, by magic, make slavery a primary cause of TWBTS. Instead, the repetition of that LIE simply makes Southerners angry at (& causes us to ridicule) the LIARS.

I don't think you can surmise that at all. The victim may have merely stood his ground, rather than running. That would be enough in CT to convict him. And would explain the judge's comment.

Much truth there. Lee had no slaves (he inherited slaves when his father-in-law passed away, but set them free in accordance with the will). Stonewall once bought a slave and then set the slave free to pay off the purchase price (Stonewall never had much money). This was done at the slave's request. Stonewall also founded and funded the first Sunday School for black children in his home town. He sent money to them regularly even after the War started, until his death.

I don't see where the state has a case, not can any state pass a law they denies me my Constitutional Rights. I have the right of "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" and the 2nd recognizes my right to defend myself. Conn cannot take that away from me. Being attacked by 3 people precludes my ability to get away. SO I have no other choice.

Might be a word of caution about carrying a knife instead of a gun. I support the dead men tell no lies rule...

Back to the point of the victim becoming the aggressor...how many of you believe that if you were jumped in your place of work by three teenage thugs and after kicking your a@# the went outside....and you then walked out the door...they would run away in fear for their lives? More than likely, the fight moved outside after a brief hiatus and that is when the "felon" stabbed one of them in self defense. As I read the article, I find it hard to believe that anyone who is an aggressor in a fight against three harmless youths would stab one of them in the leg. It sounds more like they have you on the ground stomping you and you pull out a knife and start flailing away.

This is what I come away with when reading this excerpt from the UPI article:

The incident occurred on Sept. 30, 2017, when three juveniles went into the Norwalk, Conn. Dunkin Donuts where Sumpter worked and beat him, according to The Hour. The fight then moved outside and Sumpter stabbed one attacker in the leg.

Even though you occasionally see or hear a move afoot from the Left to repeal or otherwise abolish the ‘Castle Doctrine’ and the ‘Stand Your Ground’ laws, I think the combination of those two laws have done more good in Texas than just about anything else to help “correct” the injustice in the legal system for the average homeowner or average guy that’s just minding his own business, working hard and trying to provide a decent living for himself and his family.

We are seeing states all over the US and also Cities passing laws that deny our unalienable rights. Violence against those they hold different (read: Center-right views) is on the rise.

The attitudes are amazing: How dare you call MS 13 animals, after all they don't prefer guns, but rather machetes, guns bad, machetes good.

If you want to take over a country or city or state then you have to create a need for the population to embrace more laws, more govt control. The best way to do that is thru instability of the world in which you live. Almost ALL leftist will give up their rights if the govt will only protect them. What did Obama say? 'they cling to their guns and bibles'!

The goals of the Left are being spoken and acted out under Trump, he has forced them to come out of the closet and tell us straight up what they want and their vision for America:

    Open borders

    Get rid of ICE

    Get GOD out of EVERYTHING

    Total gun control and confiscation

FREE: Drugs, abortion on demand, up to and including at birth, education for all, cradle to grave medical care, guaranteed Basic Living Income for all, whether they work or not, socialism where everyone makes the same wages for working...

    No guns = no crime

Basic Living Wage for ALL = end to poverty

Secularism = end to all religious conflict

After Trump leaves office it will all be downhill from there

    Ole Cowboy,

NOPE. - After President Trump comes 8 years of President Pence. = UNTIL/UNLESS the MORON LEFT is purged from the DIMocRAT Party, they are FINISHED as a party that can win the WH and/or control of Congress.
TRUTH is that the DP of 2018 has NOBODY that can beat Trump or Pence.

Newspaper article is meant to draw sympathy for the "minors" who attacked this guy. This is what most of those minors in Bridgeport look like...

We tried to warn the yankees, but they would not listen about liberalism and what it would cause. You get what you vote for. That said my thoughts and prayers are still with the guy.

I feel the need to correct a misunderstanding. A Yankee is one who come to Texas from wherever that qualified him to be a Yankee and then returns home. A Damnyankee is one who come to Texas and STAYS.

    PS: I married one.
