So I didn't find a thread on these two subjects so I made one. So let me explain, I am in the middle building my own Ar-15 and now I am doing research on aftermarket triggers ( I have a Mil-Spec trigger but plan on upgrading) so does anyone have a certain type of trigger that they feel is very good? The same question goes with a sight, except for the fact that I do not have any type of sight yet.
    Thanks

I use Geissele triggers. Two stage. It's like nothing you've ever felt. You always hear the description, 'Breaks like glass'.

You'll never fully understand that feel with a turd, gritty, factory, mil-spec trigger. It's night and day between the two.

Optics. I'm an Aim point fan for red dots. Trijicon for scopes. I prefer American made glass on anything.

The geissele two stage trigger is what was recommended to me by my uncle, and then between a red dot and a holographic sight which one would you recommend

Red dots do better in the rain. Holographic sights can catch water interfering with the admitter. It messes with the beam being projected on the TV screen. Enclosed red dots don't have that problem.

Red-red dots are designed to excite the shooter. Red is for quick shots.

Green dots are for longer viewing. The color green calms you down. Allowing for a better, longer, eyeball scan of the area.

I’m experimenting with a PSA EPT trigger combined with the JP 3.5lb spring kit. All in for <$50. For the trigger.

    I’m running a Bushnell TRS-25 right now.

On my list for next month is the PA 1x-6x X 30 gen III scope with ACSS Raptor reticle. It’s an FFP reticle that’s very intuitive and similar to the ACOG TA-31F reticle.

I’ve been putting together what I hope will be an excellent all-around shooter for about $750 all in. It’s taken patience to find the products I wanted at the price I wanted, but I’m happy so far.

Depends on your budget. You can polish a stock mil spec trigger, change the springs & makes it a little better but still not close to a $200 + Geissele or ELF. I'm pretty cheap so just polished the mil spec & changed springs ... $15.

I'm running Magpul MBUS's & a Bushnell T25 on one my builds ...its not bad for not being magnified & under $100. Hitting 40 a few years ago my vision has been going & anything past 50 yards i need a magnification optic mounted so i have a different build with a Vortex 4x12 Diamondback Tactical.

Over the last few years several companies have come out with BINARY triggers ... they fire on the pull & the release of the trigger....basically 2 shots with one trigger pull.

The expensive stuff has very little depreciation. Aimpoint will always hold its money by a minimum of 75%. Same with an expensive trigger. It's not like your losing money driving it off the lot.

You can get rid any of it within hours on here. Texas Gun trader. You'll charge a big price because it's worth it.

It's something you can afford. Just takes longer of a save. Easy way to hide money from the wife too. The American made military grade optics are the gold standard. It keeps it value.

    Out here by the lake!
I have Geissele triggers in both my M16 & one AR15.

As far as optics I own a couple of Aimpoint Comp 4's, a couple of Leupold 6X42's, a Trijicon RMR on my dedicated .22 upper & the best for last is my Elcan Speter DR. 6X

I like my Timney 3.5# trigger. Its bowed but much straighter than mil spec. RDS for quick short shots or low power scope for fast shooting and a little more precision.

My absolute favorite optic. Aimpoint CompM4. I ran one on a Ruger 10/22 with a barracuda stock with a vertical fore grip. Lots of trigger and hammer work.

On a trigger. I have to have an overtravel stop. The trigger has to have that wall for me to be the best shot I can be. Short travel, sharp snap and fast.

I try like hell to shoot the push pins holding the old target up.

Ahhh - triggers. I think a lot of it is what you want out of your rifle. I built an AR in 6.5 Grendel for long range shooting. The first trigger was the Palmetto upgraded trigger. It was better than the one in my Colt 6920, but still pretty bad. Next was a rise armaments black trigger from (shameless plug) ground zero. That was a BIG improvement, but still a four-ish pound trigger.
    Now stop.
if you want a reliable crisp trigger, you're done.
Then I bought a Geissele SSA two stage. Glass rod etc. Etc. Great trigger - However, I had lost sight of what I wanted the rifle to be. A long range gun. Perhaps from my deficient long range shooting skills, but what I really wanted in a trigger was a very light pull. Just something to think about.

Don't put a 2# trigger on a 450 bushmaster. It'll do a two round burst before know what happened. It can be done but better keep your finger lose because the trigger its bouncing back in Millimeters. Short travel trigger will go off.

I prefer single stage triggers. CMC makes the best single stage I have ever seen. No creep, incredibly crisp break. Drop in the trigger pack, takes about three minutes to install.

Folks who like two stage seem to like Geissele.

As far as optics, that depends upon your application. I have some set up with a red dot and a flip mount 3x magnifier. You can go with a conventional scope and then put a holographic on a 45 degree mount off to the side. Best of both worlds.

In all my plain-jain ARs, I run whatever mil-spec came in the LPK, polished up with 1000 grit, and JP yellow springs. Good for 4-5lbs.

In one of my LWRC's I run a Geissele 2 stage, which is phenomenal. I paid retail for it ($239) and got a free closed-ear Anderson lower and LPK, bought 2 actually. You can normally get these for $179ish on sale... SSAE or something.

One of my LWRC's came with a Geissele Tricon which is also very nice, a bit heavier.

I also have a Geissele 3 gun trigger in one of my LWRC's and honestly it's basically dangerous. Single stage and I weighed it at about 2lbs.

Buddy of mine has a CMC single stage and it is a really, really nice trigger for $150.

As far as optics, I have astigmatism and it ruins it. I can use a red dot with a magnifier, however that ends up magnifying the dot as well. I have a Eotech with flip out magnifier and it works well.
I also have a Vortex Spitfire that I really like since it's prismatic and 3x.
