Any luck? I hate red thread locker. If you haven't yet get or make yoyrself barrel blocks from say particle board. I'm sure I'm telling you stuff you already know. With stuck muzzle attachments I like to get the muzzle as close to the blocks as possible. Then with a propper fitting wrench and things taped up I like to get in tight with my arms tucked into my body. More control and force.helps with not having an oops.

Remember when you get a new break or flash hider on to use a wee bit of anti seize. Carbon will lock these suckers on their own.
OK 10-4... I talked to my buddy and he said just spit shine it. I mounted the scope for him and sighted it in. Now.. i'm a recoil wimp.... but dang its got some bark man. The muzzle device is a flash hider. I told my buddy.. "she needs a brake man" So i won't be surprised if he ends up wanting to get that device off

Not sure if they have a standard length. I was just curious due to the recoil you mentioned.
So here is some history... First gun to shoot... .22, 2nd 12g, 3rd 270. I was afraid of guns. My dad was a west coast surfer, not a hunter. Fast forward to about 3yrs ago. The gun bug bit the hell out of me. Bought a AR15, 300blk, 6.5c and a 338lm. The lm has a good brake on it. Yesterday was my first time shooting a 308. I just didn't realize how much punch the round has. I run my 6.5c on 40x and keep sight picture no problem. I guess I'm just a L7 weeny.

We all start in different ways. I grew up in a democrat home! Fortunately my dad was old school. He's a good man. These days he's getting pretty old and his ability to think is declining. Not even being a wise ass. He swallows whatever the dnc says now. Its a shame but I still love him. I got into guns on my own and at 18 had a few. He was like: "ok...be safe". Lucky for me I took hunter safety and learned from experienced folks right away. But never once did my old man push anti gun shit on me. Its important to be in a home that promotes free thinking. He's definitely a rare one.

    My first guns...see if I can remember...my first pistol was a used glock 22 gen 2. Long gun wise I had a mini14, a wasr in 5.45x39, a 300 ultra mag and an 870.

So the question I was asking about barrel length was really thinking about weight and felt recoil.

I was shooting with some buddies a few years ago and we were shooting across their pond from a dock that floated. My 308 weighs a ton and I took a few shots which barely moved the dock. Next shots were from a lightweight 308, that sucker rocked the dock. I would have though he was shooting a tank or something.

I don't think it's being a recoil weenie or anything it just goes to show how a good brake or heavy rifle can change the shooting experience.

    ETA: Grammar correction.

Yeah.. I do think it's the weight of the rifle. That's what my buddy said when I picked it up... "man this thing is light for a AR10"

I'm just ignorant to it all because I don't have any experience with a 308 or AR10

I'm building a 16" barreled one myself, hadn't thought much about the recoil myself. Guess I'll see how it feels.

How does barrel length affect recoil?
Longer barrel is worse, or longer barrel has more weight so recoil is less?
Barrel length has more to do with wether the muzzle device is pinned and welded or not.
I believe that's why the question was posed.

It doesn't. I was thinking about weight for the rifle overall and was curious how much of that may come from the barrel. A heavy 18, 20 or 22 compared to say a 16 A2 profile. The rest of the rifle is all pretty light unless it has a heavy duty quad rail on. It was just a quick question as I pondered weight and the comment about it the recoil.
