How about a repost from another thread?

You don't need color film to make color photographs. You just need 3 black and white negatives simultaneously exposed with the right 3 filters. It's hard to do outside a studio (the cameras for this are gigantic beasts) but back before color film was common some of the most beautiful, vibrant color prints you've ever seen were made by that method.
