I travel several days a week and must use credit cards frequently. I've had the banks call me immediately after suspect charges are made, asking if the charges belonged to me. Haven't lost any money but it's a pain having your card canceled while you're on a business trip.
Bank of America used to cancel mine often when I traveled. Pain in the butt to deal with.

Left them behind because of their anti-gun politics.

My current bank has called a few times but never canceled it. Much better option.

Are you saying that your card was compromised, but after they called you it was not canceled?

I've had my card canceled after a call from the bank confirming it was not my charge which was made to my card

Sounds like they called and determined his card wasn't compromised.

Then there would be no reason to cancel it.

And they didn't cancel it. ;)

My interpretation was that the bank saw something suspicious and called him to verify instead of seeing something suspicious and killing the card. Maybe I read it wrong.

No, card was not compromised but my activity was suspicious so they called me.

Same situation BOA would shut the card off and I would have to call them when the card didn't work.

Here's the thing about driving cross country. You may get gas in a somewhat straight line but the charges come from the station's home office. The stations are in line from TX to NY (or whatever) but the charges jump randomly all over the place. It looks like your card is being used all over the place multiple times a day. On paper it looks suspicious.
