Hey folks, new member here so thanks for the add......Here is my question....I recently purchased a California compliant/Bullet button PTR 91...I would like to change this back and also add a paddle magazine release. How difficult is this to do and which parts kits do I need to do it??....One other question....Rifle also came with the polymer lower....is it worth the time to change this to a steel lower....appearance wise I think the steel lower would look better...but thats just my opinion.....Thanks again for the add

Only paddle mag release I had done was done by RTDS, but they did a lot of others work @ the time. If they aint done right they rattle is something to watch out for. TMP Outfitters are H&K smiths located in Texas.

Texas gun people aren't very hep on bullet buttons.
I'm not either...but I got a really good deal on this rifle so I would like to change it back.....and to make this clear....I am not in California....I am a native Texan here in Texas....I also got twenty 20 round mags with it....illegal in California I believe as is being in possession of this rifle without the bullet button....I have put about 200 rounds through it without a malfunction...very easy to disassemble and clean....its a little heavy but I like it so far....very accurate

Why not get a REAL HK91, PTR91 and send the Cali-Compliant back to where it belongs???????????????

Sell it on gunbroker (back to some unfortunate soul living in a Cali $h!thole) and get one already made to 'real-world-standards'. Do the math and see if it works????

They might need the parts that make it 'compliant' in their location. (so sorry for them)

I have a 1983 HK91 my wife bought me for my birthday (back in 1983) and I added a 'paddle-Mag-release' just a few years ago. Easy mod that you can do at home.

You guys are brutal....LOL......I just want to get rid of the bullet button bull$h!t

I fell your bullet-button pain. I spent 5 years behind the plastic straw curtain working a tech job..so I had to bullet-button all my freedom guns while I was there. Stupid legal machinations.. so I get your desire to rid a perfectly good rifle of it's Commifornica handcap.

HKPro forum is def. your go-to source on this. Oh.. and make sure you measure that bolt clearance on the thing, just to be sure it's not having any spacing issues. Plenty of posts about doing that (if you haven't done it already).

I personally don't feel like dropping the extra coin on a 'legit' HK, when companies like MKE, and it would appear, PTR, are making rifles that are just as good, and dare I say better than the original crusty HKs. I'm pretty happy with my FMP parts gun.. makes single hole groups with iron sights, shoots everything including Wolf steel cased without an issue.

I have 3 ptr91s out of CA. bullet button takes no time at all. You need to machine/cut/fornicate the gun to install the paddle. I have 3 paddles sitting in my parts bin. One day....

I have a "crusty" Imported for SACO H&K 91 with a HK code date (1979). How many of those "just as good, and dare I say better" knock offs have polygon barrels?

I have an 83 date code HK 91, and I’ve had 2 PTR 91’s. The early PTR I owned had a couple issues. Scope rail was a little off, FTF once in a while. Nothing major, but things just weren’t perfect. The later PTR has no issues I’ve noticed. And the welded scope rail makes it much more accurate than the claw mount.
