After shooting a few upgraded 10/22's I decided I wanted to upgrade my own. With other projects going on I couldn't do all the upgrades I wanted, and a few I added along the way, at once, so it's taken a couple months and I am still deciding what I want to upgrade to for a stock.

Here is what I started with, good little shooter, but you know, it can always be better.

To start with the upgrades I ordered a Vortex 3-9x40 crossfire scope, some Warne scope rings, extended mag release and a Ruger BX Trigger.

Here it is with those installed:

Next upgrades, and what I had been drooling over, a Volquartsen carbon fiber barrel. Since I don't have a suppressor as yet I ordered a Volquartsen forward blow compensator. Also from Volquartsen I got their bolt tune up kit, extended bolt handle, automatic bolt release and recoil buffer. I also got some Vortex Defender flip caps for the scope.

I had the bipod already and put it on:

I just got it all together earlier, so now that the rain has stopped I will be sighting it in and checking out how she shoots.

The Magpul Hunter X-22 and X-22 Backpacker stocks look pretty neat.

I like what you've done so far.
The forend came with the barrel (freefloat) so I want the stock to fit the forend. I have been looking and probably go with the Adaptive Tactical TK22.

And thank you, it's much lighter now, that's for sure.

Ah I missed you had put a VQ barrel on there.

I have a TD I just put a red dot on. Not sure what else I'm going to do with it at this point. Think I might want to start tweaking it for steel challenge .

Yeah, I didn't have the money for the barrel at the time I bought the scope, but it actually was the first thing I wanted after looking at and reading about it.

At first I didn't want to turn a $300 rifle into a $1,000 rifle, but once you start it's hard to stop.

    It's about the journey, right?
Could be just me, but even my AR's when I find something that makes it better, it's hard to tell myself I don't want to spend the money, unless it's way out of my price range. I know that I won't be able to sell for what I put into them, but then I try not to buy what I don't want to keep.

And yes, I love the journey.

I hear ya brother. I pretty much did the exact same thing as you except I went with all VQ parts and also mine isn't a takedown. Your rifle is sweet, man.

I imagine you're at the point where ammo makes a bigger difference than the next upgrade.
What are you using for ammunition now?

^Same here! (TD w/ mix of VQ, Kidd, and TacSol).

Never planned to spend that much, but it ended up being badass enough to have me contemplating doing it again with a Charger/TD...

I was using CCI's but found that the jacketed bullets have less FTF, so lately Federal Champions.

FWIW, didn't see if you upgraded the spring, but if not it's super cheap and with lighter springs you 'may' be able to cycle subs/quiets (nice even without a can).

Took the rifle out to shoot today, WOW, it is so much fun to shoot now! I think my laser must be off, it took me awhile to dial in the scope after using the laser. Once I got it dialed in I put up a new target and shot 5 rounds into each target. Keep in mind I could only go out to 30 yards on the property and I was shooting off a wobbly plastic table, here's the 25 shots:

    The two best groups:

    0909181440.jpg

And some rapid fire on the center target:

I love it, can't wait to see what I can do shooting off a more solid platform, but I'm very pleased with this much more smoothly shooting rifle.
