*I'm not sure if this is where this thread should live, so feel free to move if there's a better spot.*

What happens if you're pulled over without your license? Assume the person has a valid DL, but forgot it at home. Is this problem alleviated at all by knowing my DL number?

Ok, now same question about if the driver is carrying at the time. Last I recall, it was still an obligation to hand over a carry license with a DL for a traffic stop, but in this scenario, the driver has valid carry and driver's licenses, but they are not physically on their person.

Your ID can be done by SSN. Through that it can show if you currently have a valid drivers licence.

You're suppose to have it on person. You can get a ticket for "No DL". Then you can explain to the judge why you forgot it.

Usually but not always. The police officer will tell you not to forget it again. Issues a warning.

Now if your DL comes back with a bunch of $hit on it. Like an old dwi, theft, reckless something. You're getting a No DL citation on top of the reason you were pulled over.

Obviously be polite to the officer anyway. That should go without saying.

What about having a firearm on my person, but not my carry license?

A friend of my daughter's fiance was pulled over 2 weeks ago on his way to help them move. The guy had a suspended license, they gave him a ticket and let him call a friend to get the truck real fast before they had it towed. I'm sure if the policeman was having a bad day he might have been arrested and the truck towed immediately.

I got stopped 15 years ago for something, I cant remember , but had left my wallet at home
I had my Insurance card, the tags were squared away, and I knew my DL
I got a warning and it was no big deal.

Once they figure out you are not the problem, they have no interest in making your life hard.

There are all sorts of people driving on suspended DLs, no insurance, the car belongs to BIL, sisters, cousin, and they are buying it from them on a payment plan, but that dope in the console is NOT theirs

Not having your DL on you can be a hassle, but as others have said if the cop's not in a pissy mood (and you know your DL number) you can get by.

Not having your carry license on you while you're carrying is (if I recall) a class A misdemeanor. You won't get a warning for that. Unless the pistol is off your body and concealed in the vehicle, in which case you're covered under the Motorists Protection Act.

Have your hands in your pockets while moving toward them. They LOVE that.
Actually I've always felt that showing the officer the gun in a way that he can look down the barrel to see that it's empty, the best.

Seriously though, this can have different scenarios. I am always respectful and have mainly gotten verbal or written warnings, and no it doesn't happen often, but I have rarely gotten out of a ticket if it's a woman cop and most often gotten a warning from a male.

I tend to check that I have my wallet with me before I strap on my gun, but in the one case in my life I didn't have it the officer knew I did have a valid license just from my name off the insurance and registration and running it through the computer. I didn't have a gun with me at that time.
