Are there any more details, like a rules page? When the benchrest guys start showing up with their 75lb rifles shooting sub-1 inch groups, I imagine a lot of people will quickly lose interest.

The fact that a membership there is now $400 a year is nuts.
They could probably get away with charging even more. That's a 600-yard range with a decent firing line that's conveniently located for a huge nearby population. For people that live close to there, it's so much more convenient than driving to the (better, cheaper) Bayou Rifles range at Juliff as to make the $400 seem completely reasonable.

If you live on the west side of Houston, what's the next closest 600-yard range after those two and is it close enough to actually use on a regular basis?

I'm looking here and here I don't see a competitor for those two anywhere nearby. I hope I'm wrong and missing some wonderful place that someone will point out to me but, as far as I can tell, until there's more competition, ASC can charge pretty much whatever they want.

400? you crybabies.. the two ranges within driving distance (40 minutes to an hour) of me are ETTS and Triple C... each one has hefty membership fees of 600 for ETTS or 550 for Triple C and that only gets you the 600 yard.. if you want access to its larger ranges its 800 and 1000.

I spend that shooting on my own place.
    With help from others.
Ranges don't build and maintain themselves.

Dang, sometimes I really miss living out in Arizona. The range that we went to was $60 a year for a family membership and went out to 600 yards.
I can't see me paying 600 for any membership. I guess I'm just funny that way.

Oh, I understand that it's expensive to run the place, and they're rebuilding after Harvey. I live 10 minutes from there and was a member for years. The cost of membership has risen from $300 to $400 in 2 years with no additional benefits for members. When I'm done with my own Harvey rebuilding and have time to shoot again, I'll have to make a choice of convenience vs cost when looking for a range to spend time at. If they included the sporting clays membership at that price, it would most likely be no-brainer.

I had a membership at ASC for two years. They knew me by name when I walked in. But it is cheaper now to just pay the fee and select between ASC and Boyert.
Boyert has free machine gun rentals on Fridays... Best incentive ever...
