I have the MPR in 5.56. Outstanding rifle that can be had for 599 and sometimes cheaper.

U.S.A.-(Ammoland.com)- Sturm, Ruger & Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR) is excited to announce the new AR-556 Multi-Purpose Rifle (“MPR”) chambered in .450 Bushmaster. This new offering is ideal for hunting Midwestern whitetail deer and big pigs and target shooting at heavy steel.

The MPR platform offers superior accuracy, versatility and shootability by incorporating a Ruger muzzle brake, Elite 452 two-stage trigger, free-float handguard with Magpul M-LOK accessory attachment slots and Magpul furniture. This new rifle combines innovative engineering, modern materials and precision CNC-machining to make a superior rugged, reliable, semi-auto rifle chambered for the .450 Bushmaster cartridge.

Accuracy and velocity are maximized with a nitrided, 18-5/8” cold hammer-forged barrel and the 11/16”-24 radial port muzzle brake to soften recoil. A carbine-length gas system with 0.875” gas block ensures reliable function and fits under the 15” free-float handguard. The Magpul M-LOK accessory attachment slots around the handguard make attaching a sling and bipod easy. The handguard’s smooth profile situates easily on shooting sticks or a backpack for a steady shot.

This new offering is ideal for hunting Midwestern whitetail deer and big pigs and target shooting at heavy steel.
Engineered with a high-strength superalloy bolt and tapered lug geometry, the .450 Bushmaster MPR is built to withstand the strength of a cartridge that delivers twice the energy of 5.56 NATO. The upper receiver features a large window for easy ejection and is covered by a standard dust cover. Mil-Spec forgings are CNC-machined, anodized and finished with Ruger’s Elite 452 two-stage trigger, Magpul MOE grip and MOE SL® stock.

Also includes a 5-round metal box magazine.

Seems like a strange combo for me. A low priced entry level rifle that shoots a round most beneficial if you reload. I still want one.

My only gripes with the mpr are use of unshrouded carrier, and my extension tube wasn’t to my liking in it barely retained the buffer retainer. both replaced immediately. I believe it also uses a unique barrel nut.

Machining on mine was definitely a case of the operator not checking things. It works it’s just the magwell got hogged out a bit more than needed but the four points that contact the mag body are in spec. My pic rail was tight. Got my scope on though. Got drunk one night and cerakoted it Rhodesia camo colors. She’s special. Lol

If their 450 bushmaster is the same price heck yeah I’ll try a ruger ar again. I want a gunsight scout in 450 bushmaster anyway.

Never shot a .450 Bushmaster, I have shot the .458 Socom and that was a blast. Assuming they are pretty close in design and purpose that could be a nice rifle to have around. Ammo is looking around 1.10 to 1.50 for Hornandy FTX rounds.

.458 was for suppressing and heavy hitting loads. 450 was for a brush gun/hog type gun but the two use different bullets. 458 using true rifle diam. And 450 bsh using pistol caliber same as 45 acp.

Interesting! I know nothing about these rifles. Is the upper & lower sized like a .308 AR or is it consistent with the .223/.300BLK?
It would be the size of a normal AR.

The .450 Bushmaster is designed to be used in the standard M16s and AR-15s, using modified magazines and upper receiver assemblies.

Here are some pictures of the magazines with the rounds in them. I believe the .450 may need its own follower to work in a standard ar mag:

And this is just an awesome picture that was on that wikipedia article:

    Cut N Shoot
    You use “single shot followers”.
Made for single loading rounds into the chamber.
Some feed lip tweaking is usually required.
